Three Players Who Garry Monk Can Sign At Middlesbrough

Garry Monk has chosen to ditch Leeds United and with the dust having settled on that decision, who could blame him?

The former Swansea manager has some real future in the game – something that in the short-term, Leeds as a club, do not have. Times are looking increasingly desperate at Elland Road and now the former defender has a chance to aim for promotion to the Premier League with Middlesbrough.

Here are three players Monk may go for after taking over at the Riverside, to aid their promotion campaign.

Enzo Crivelli (Bastia)

The 22-year-old right-sided attacker from France is improving hand over fist and has just completed his best season in first team football till date. 10 league goals in 24 games is an excellent return from the former Bordeaux man and he could be just the sort of player Monk will need, to help add some penetration to an underwhelming Boro attack.

Cameron Jerome (Norwich City)

It could be a pre-season of major change at Norwich. While that will be good for the Carrow Road outfit, it could also benefit one or two others. Boro need to quickly remember that the Championship is a league you need knowledge of if you want to get out of it, and Jerome has plenty of that.

He is a thoroughly decent striker, still going strong. To the surprise of some, he even managed 16 league goals last season. That fact may have gone under the radar of many but not of Monk, who is an admirer of Jerome. He is someone who could provide the necessary firepower to take Boro back up.

Aiden McGeady (Everton)

McGeady still possesses plenty of quality – something he demonstrated in a player of the season performance at Preston North End last campaign. Frankly, at 31 years of age, he will not get many more chances to gain a promotion and so if Boro come knocking, his head is bound to be turned.

As well as providing plenty of assists and key passes during an impressive campaign, the winger hit 8 league goals last term and is capable of getting into double figures when playing further up the division. The former Celtic winger’s experience could be vital in a promotion campaign and Boro could do a lot worse than bringing him in on a short-term deal.
