Why Crystal Palace Should Sign Kelechi Iheanacho This Summer

Despite guiding them to finish above the drop zone, Sam Allardyce decided to step down as Crystal Palace boss and the Eagles have suffered a major setback.

Palace have published the list of released players and ruthlessly cut out the deadwoods including striker Fraizer Campbell whose three years of association finally comes to an end. He became a bit part squad player in the last couple of campaigns and was sent way down the pecking order by Belgian marksman Christian Benteke and young Englishman Connor Wickham.

Wickham, however, has been troubled by lengthy injury spells that have stalled his progress and the Eagles are now left with Benteke, who only uplifted his performance towards the end of the campaign, following his switch from Liverpool. Crystal Palace are in desperate search for a new forward and if reports are believed to be true, they have joined the race to snatch £20million Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho who has also been heavily linked with a move to West Ham United.

Iheanacho, 20, has struggled to get enough game time in a star-studded Manchester City lineup despite showing his quality in the limited opportunities. The Nigerian international has grabbed his opportunities with the senior side and has made 35 appearances in all competitions scoring 14 times during 2015-16 season.
The highly rated youngster registered only 5 league starts last term (15 substitute appearances), but he netted 4 times and assisted thrice in only 528 minutes of Premier League football. Also, Iheanacho managed to score twice in 103 minutes of Champions League football and is now seeking a move elsewhere for regular game-time.
The Hammers boss Slaven Bilic had a disappointing campaign as he failed to match the upsurge of 2015/16 season. He is keen to add more firepower upfront and is eyeing a move for Iheanacho. However, West Ham’s delay in taking the deal forward has allowed Crystal Palace to enter the race and the Londoners seem to have agreed to meet his asking price demanded by Manchester City.
Iheanacho, a proven goal-scorer in Premier League, has a bright future ahead of him and a move to Crystal Palace makes sense for the Nigerian due to the presence of flair wingers in the form of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend. Though Benteke is hailed for his goal-poaching instinct, he does not provide enough work-rate upfront, whereas Iheanacho is a massive threat during counter attacks and his work ethic is something that will help him link up with the Eagles’ wingers.
Iheanacho is an all-round and versatile attacker with strong passing, dribbling and finishing skills. He loves to cut inside and do layoffs, and has a strong left foot that empowers him to take ambitious shots from distance.
The race for Iheanacho is heating up and it will be a massive boost for Crystal Palace if they manage to snatch the deal from the Hammers grasp.
