Food For Thought For Manchester United: Is This French Beast Worth The 100 Million World Record Fee?

Share

Manchester United’s spending spree doesn’t seem to end at the moment and based on recent rumours, the Old Trafford club are preparing a world record bid to bring Frenchman Paul Pogba to the Premier League side.

The Juventus midfielder has been one of the best Serie A players ever since he left Old Trafford and seems set to move back to the Premier League as United are set to offer £100 million for the services of the 23-year-old.

The big question, apart from where is United getting all this money? Is the fact that is Pogba really worth spending this much, this early in his career?

Too much, too young, too fast

There is no denying that Pogba is one of the best players in the world at the moment but every time Real Madrid broke their transfer record, the went to buy the game changer from a club. Cristiano Ronaldo was in the form of his life at Manchester United when he was swooped up by the La Liga club.

The same could be said about Gareth Bale but even he had carried Tottenham on his shoulders for a couple of years before he moved to Spain and he too has been done extremely well after a difficult first season.

Paul Pogba isn’t the finished product at the moment but he surely can get better, the one thing that does stand out is the fact that for a Juventus team that might not have a lot of talent; he has played with a move of quality and experienced players in his stint in Italy.

Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal, Sami Khedira and a few others surely have given the young Pogba a lot to think about and learn as well but has he really been that great for France and Juventus over the recent years?

The one way you could justify this rather ludicrous price tag is to compare him with the best players in the world. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the star players for their respective teams and they bring in other stars as well, as the pair have often single-handedly won trophies for their teams, even when the odds were against them.

Pogba might have won four Serie A titles in a row but the team that Juventus have put together have had it easy in Italy. The French start hasn’t had to deal with a proper and serious challenger to his crown as one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

There is no doubting the fact that the French beast is a game changer and having him at Manchester United or any other club in the world would make them a dangerous outfit. The fact that the French midfielder can actually get better with time is another scary prospect which definitely has pumped up his valuation but truth be told, he isn’t worth the amount of money that is being asked for his signature.

Pogba is talented no doubt but his performances aren’t on the level of Ronaldo, Messi or even Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan was scoring goals for fun and was the X factor for Barcelona last season when Messi went missing. The French midfielder needs to change and dominate games even more and spending £100 million on him might be the inflated market talking, coupled with the TV deal that the Premier League have but Juventus star isn’t  worth the amount at the moment.
