Everton signing this Ligue 1 powerhouse for just £8.5m would be nothing but daylight robbery by Silva

Everton opinion: Should the Toffees sign Adrien Tameze?

With the Premier League season over, it’s time for Everton to take a good look at their team and see exactly what they need to do well next term. The Toffees haven’t had the best of times in the 2018/19 season, losing more than their fair share of games.

However, despite that, manager Marco Silva has managed to pull off a few miracles. The draw against Liverpool was proof of exactly what they can do when at their very best, sitting back deep and playing on the counter.

Maybe with a better striker leading the line, the result could have been different but Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t done too badly.

But if you look at it that way, more than a few players haven’t done too badly for the club. Tom Davies, James McCarthy, Morgan Schneiderlin and a few others haven’t been at their very best but at the same time, they haven’t been at their very worst either.

More than anything, they’ve put in average performances and for a club with the ambitions that Everton have, that is unacceptable. But it’s what Marco Silva’s had to work with this season and that has to change going forward.

Their main targets should be midfielders and the Liverpool Echo has reported that Everton have joined the race for Adrien Tameze. The young midfielder has made quite an impact for OGC Nice, with Cardiff City even showing an interest earlier in 2019 (Mirror).

The Cameroonian joined Nice in 2017 and spent most of the season playing second fiddle to Jean Michael Seri. Seri’s departure allowed Tameze to step seamlessly into his role and the 25-year-old has flourished since then.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Tameze’s main role is something similar to what Idrissa Gueye does for the club. The 25-year-old takes his duties of breaking up the play very seriously, winning more than his fair share of defensive duels in the process.

Playing at the base of a midfield three makes him responsible for moving the play forward, and he does that with ease.

However, if Evertonians are expecting Adrien Tameze to be their creative genius, then they should look elsewhere because that’s not his strength. Add that to his mere £8.5million fees, it makes Tameze an absolute bargain.

Conclusion

With Idrissa Gueye being linked to Manchester United, Everton needs a bonafide and yet affordable replacement which is exactly what Adrien Tameze is. At the age of 25, he’s at his peak and will only improve even further from here.
