Why Everton should re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United

According to a report in Sun Football, Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is the latest player to be unhappy at the club. The Belgian, who was bought for £75m from Everton last year, joins Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez in growing frustrations with boss Jose Mourinho.

The 25-year-old would even weigh up his future away from Old Trafford if he continues to stay out of the team more often than not. The new player crisis has come because Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has confirmed that the manager is fully committed to the cause at United. (Sun)

Lukaku has just started two games since October and he was back on the bench against Arsenal in midweek after starting against Southampton last weekend. Hence, it is pretty clear that the striker is no longer a first-choice player in the eyes of the gaffer.

If he decides to move away, here’s why Everton should considering welcoming him back to the Goodison Park:

Everton’s striker problem needs a solution

Everton have made a terrific start under manager Marco Silva as they find themselves at 7th-place in the table and have a realistic chance of playing in Europe next season. They are slowly but surely building a solid team with a manager who loves to play expansive football from the back in between the lines.

The Toffees did some unbelievable business in the summer but are yet to solve their striker problem ever since Lukaku left the club. Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse haven’t been able to take over that number nine role and deliver the goods.

It has come down to the point that Silva is using Richarlison as a false nine, with Bernard on the left and Theo Walcott on the right. However, the former isn’t really comfortable playing a physical game against the centre-backs. He is more suited to cutting inside from the left and playing in half-spaces.

Hence, it is imperative from the club’s point of view that they buy a new quality striker sooner than later. Lukaku has expressed his frustration and might want to leave Manchester United. Everton shouldn’t hesitate to take their former star back.

The Belgian was a goal-scoring machine when he was at the Goodison and he would thrive more as a player, performing under a manager like Marco Silva, who prefers to play expansive football rather than being pragmatic.
