According to the Mirror, Cardiff City are interested in making a move for out of favour Everton striker Oumar Niasse. The Senegal international joined the Toffees from Lokomotiv Moscow for a fee of around £16million in 2016.
But he has since failed to hit the expected heights and was also shipped off to Hull City on loan during the second half of last season. Although Niasse did hit 8 goals in 30 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside club, he was still used as a fringe squad member.
He was expected to receive a new lease of life under Marco Silva but the manager possesses the likes of Richarlison, Theo Walcott, Cenk Tosun etc. to choose from in his squad. Niasse has not made a single Premier League start under the new coach this season.
The 28-year-old is definitely surplus to requirements and that is why Cardiff City should aim to make a move for him in January. The Bluebirds have shown an improvement in recent weeks after picking up a win against Southampton in their latest clash this weekend. Neil Warnock’s side are out of the relegation zone for now but they have to do better.
The newcomers have scored just 15 goals in 16 games this season. Cardiff have struggled to find the back of the net away from home this season. The arrival of Niasse would definitely take away some of that pressure.
Neil Warnock is currently using a natural midfielder in Callum Paterson as his lone forward. The Bluebirds are definitely low on strikers in the team. Niasse possesses pace, power and energy in the final third. The Senegal international loves to make runs behind the defence and teammates like Joshy Murphy who can tee him up in space will surely see the Everton forward thrive.
Despite failing to make the squad this season, the 28-year-old scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists in 22 league appearances last season. He was a menace for defenders to deal with and will surely bolster Cardiff’s frontline. The Senegal international is a good finisher in front of the goal and would also be very useful in link-up plays. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Cardiff City should definitely make a move for Niasse when the transfer window reopens in January. Neil Warnock’s side should definitely capitalise on the striker’s situation and convince him to make the move.
A move would not look so bad from the Everton forward’s perspective as well, given that he could be playing regular football.
