English news outlet the Liverpool Echo (h/t GetFootballNewsGermany) has reported that Everton are interested in a move for Hakim Ziyech. The Toffees are looking for reinforcements next summer and believe that the Ajax superstar would be a great move.
They are not wrong, especially given the 26-year old’s rise this season. With Gylfi Sigurdsson ageing, the Toffees believe that the 26-year-old is the right man to replace him. The report claims that both Liverpool and Chelsea were keen on a move last summer and now Arsenal and Leicester have joined the race.
It shows just how revered the Moroccan is, and why Everton needs to win the race. Brilliant to watch on the ball, the 26-year-old despite not being the biggest or strongest player around, makes up for it with his dynamism. This season, he has been predominantly used out wide, but that isn’t his best position.
A number 10, Ziyech flourishes in any creative position. Ziyech has been a part of this incredible Ajax team that’s made it to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. This season, Ziyech has scored 19 goals and created 20 in all competitions.
A majority of them have come in the Eredivisie, where he has had a hand in 28% of Ajax’s goals, which shows just how good he is. Everton have their very own playmaker in Sigurdsson but the Icelandic international has been far too inconsistent for the club.
While he has scored 12 goals this season, the 29-year-old has often disappeared in big games. While Hakim Ziyech would be of a similar mould, unlike the former Swansea City man, he can play in a wide variety of positions.
As mentioned above, he’s played out wide this season for Ajax and is even capable of playing a number 8 role. That’s what Marco Silva has always preferred, even during his spells at Watford and Olympiakos.
