Three Strikers Who Tottenham Can Target As A Backup For Harry Kane Next Season

Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the most consistent clubs in the Premier League this season as they stand closest to Chelsea at the top of the points table. Mauricio Pochettino will hope that his side can finish on a high and will be planning to add some quality to his attack at the end of the season. Dutch star Vincent Janssen has shown some improvement but Spurs need another striker who’d be ready to play second fiddle and perform when called upon.

Pochettino cannot spend big this summer with a decent squad already at his disposal and will have to find some cheap alternatives in attack. Here are three such underrated strikers who Pochettino should target this summer, as a backup for Harry Kane.

Luis Muriel (US Sampdoria):

The Colombian star has been a revelation at the Italian club, scoring for fun since his move back in 2015.  He has been in superb form this season, scoring 12 goals and picking up 9 assists in all competitions and is a player the Spurs fans will love instantly. Known for his passing and finishing abilities, the 25-year old likes to dribble past his opponents before unleashing his dangerous foot and will surely be a success in the Premier League. He has constantly been linked with a move to Chelsea but Spurs should take a look at him as a backup for Kane this summer.

Anthony Modeste (FC Koln):

One of the most consistent goal scorers in France for some time now, Modeste has had yet another productive season at Koln this campaign. At 28, he is an experienced player who will be ready for the big step up and Tottenham can offer him Champions League football to lure him to the club this summer. Known for his strength and deadly finishing abilities, Modeste is tailor-made for the Premier League and would be a perfect fit for Spurs. He has 25 goals and 3 assists in all competitions this season and if he can carry this form to the White Hart Lane, he may climb up the ladder, above Vincent Janssen next season.

Bas Dost (Sporting CP):

After a slightly quiet couple of years, the Dutch star has sprung to life after his move to the Portuguese league, where he has been in tremendous goal scoring form for Sporting CP. At 27, Dost is a player known for his strength in holding up the ball. He is a deadly finisher; one of the best in the league at the moment, and has 30 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this season. He is strong in the air and is a player who is in great touch. He could be the perfect second fiddle for Harry Kane, leaving Vincent Janssen with little pressure on his shoulders. Dost only joined Sporting CP at the start of the season but at his age, he is in the prime of his career and Pochettino should do all it takes to land him this summer.
