Enough Is Enough! Rangers Should Appoint Dundee Boss Neil McCann And Move On From The Managerial Search

Having desperately tried to nab Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes to replace Pedro Caixinha, Rangers appear to be hitting a brick wall now in their manager search. Graeme Murty, the caretaker boss, has turned their form around in fairness and having just completed a quick league double over the Dons, perhaps interest in McIness has just cooled down slightly.

As a result, Rangers appear to be sounding out their former player and current Dundee manager Neil McCann about the role and he is now the surprising second favourite with UK bookmakers to become the new boss at Ibrox.

The former Rangers midfielder was in the dugout to oversee a 2-1 win against his former club in November and then orchestrated another win against Ross County thereafter. His odds for the Ibrox job have shortened from around 40/1 down to 9/2 at the time of writing, usually a sign that there has been some good money for him or that the club have indeed made contact with his club.

For his part, Derek McInnes had his chance to completely deny interest in the role and categorically state he was not leaving Aberdeen after yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to the Light Blues at Pittodrie, though he failed to do that.

Rangers are reportedly set to make an approach for him this week but it seems they now have a perfectly viable alternative from within the Scottish Premiership.

McCann’s successive wins with Dundee show that he has settled into the job there as manager and that his side may now turn things around at last. With timing being everything during a managerial hunt such as this one, McCann may have very suddenly put himself right near the front of the queue.

It’s more than understandable that Derek McInnes should, at least publicly, be concentrating on Aberdeen for now but with the search for a new permanent boss at Rangers having lasted for six weeks now, McInnes himself could have somehow made his interest in the job known, had he really wanted to take it on.

McCann, on the other hand, even with all due respect to Dundee, would make no bones about him being a true Rangers man and that he would walk from Dundee to Glasgow to take on that role. That sort of passion is important, and so even if Rangers are 85% certain that McCann has the skills to do this job his attitude would go a long way towards improving this team.
