Enough is enough – Here’s why it is high time for Man City to bid goodbye to this 28-year-old Frenchman

Manchester City opinion: Manchester City should offload Elaquim Mangala

According to a report in Manchester Evening News, Manchester City are hoping to push for the sale of their French centre-back Elaquim Mangala. The Frenchman joined the club in the 2014/15 timeframe for what was quite a high fee at the time.

Mangala made an impressive start to his career at the Etihad after impressing during his time at Porto and was destined to be a success, as he showed off his physicality and athleticism immediately. However, this could not be sustained and the flaws in his game became apparent in a matter of months and the 28-year-old could never recover from it.

Eventually, he was sent out for loan spells at Valencia and Everton but Mangala failed to hit the ground running at either of these clubs and did not make an impression.

The report states that City are willing to lose him on the cheap, as there isn’t much that he offers. The Sky Blues have been one of the best recruiters in Europe in the last few years and yet, it’s unfortunate that Mangala stands out like a sore thumb.

City have lost the services of their inspirational leader Vincent Kompany and there might be a case to argue that Mangala could return as a backup but Pep Guardiola’s system does not provide the Frenchman much room for a place in the squad.

Guardiola’s likely rotate between Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte for most of the season and has also used Fernandinho in the position. Fernandinho’s long-term replacement, Rodri, also has some of the attributes to possibly play in that position.

Conclusion

It’s the best-case scenario if Mangala and Manchester City can come up with an amicable agreement which would relieve themselves from one another. City need to focus on more important things like the Champions League.
