One of Everton’s 2018 winter signings, former Arsenal star Theo Walcott has not had the best season with the Toffees. The 30-year-old has managed to play just 35 games so far, although he lost his place in the side, a little over a month ago.
Since then, the English forward has played every game, but nearly all of them have come off the bench. For a player of his talent and ability, it’s not enough to be coming off the bench.
The 30-year old had lost his place to Bernard and Richarlison, who seem to fit Marco Silva’s system better than the former Arsenal star. Walcott had played one less than 400 games for the club, in what were Arsene Wenger’s declining years at the club.
A child prodigy when he was picked up by Arsenal, he managed to score 108 goals and create a further 78 more in all competitions for the Gunners. However, injuries and various other issues saw things change for him, and a move to Everton beckoned.
As mentioned above, the struggles that Walcott has endured in his time as an Evertonian has seen the Guardian report that he could be on his way out. However, this has been dismissed by manager Marco Silva (Liverpool Echo).
The Portuguese manager considers Walcott to be a big part of his plans, and it’s no surprise why. Despite all his issues with form and multiple goal droughts over the last few months, Walcott still remains a quality forward on his day.
Under Sam Allardyce, the forward showcased some of his abilities,.This season, after making a fast start, his performances have wavered but if he can find that form again, he can still be a great tool for the Toffees, especially with his experience.
His ability to play across the front-line also makes him a massive asset. He can become a game-changer, as was on display with a goal in the EFL cup against Southampton, while coming off the bench.
