Could These 5 Bundesliga Stars Be Coming To England? Chelsea, Man United And Others Take Notes

Share

The Bundesliga is arguably the best league in the world with fabulous stadiums, ardent fan bases and some very well run clubs. It is also the home to some of the best players in the world and is arguably the league most similar to the Premier League, hence why a lot of English clubs look to the league for transfer targets as they should be able to come over to the U.K and settle immediately. One of the weaknesses of the German league is that Bayern Munich are so dominant, which can make the other clubs susceptible to losing their best players as they search for success. The following five players have been linked with the Premier League and could make the move over to England in the near future.

Bas Dost

The first player is Wolfsburg forward Bas Dost who was one of the in form strikers in Europe during the second half of the campaign. The striker finally showed his ability in the Bundesliga and it is believed his club may be willing to let him go with Newcastle the frontrunners for his signature. The Dutchman is 26 years old and approaching the prime of his career. He has been inconsistent in the past, but he will be hoping the 2014/15 campaign is the springboard for him to have a successful spell in football, nailing down a place in the Dutch national squad in the process.

He scored 16 goals in 21 league matches for the German club which is an incredible strike rate, but some are still unconvinced by him. Dost is capable of finishing with his feet, while he is also strong aerially. Moreover he is a target man able to hold up the play and give his side a genuine target in the final third. He would be suited to the English game and would be a fabulous signing if Newcastle manage to finalise the deal.

Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino is an exciting talent who is attracting interest from Champions League clubs thanks to his performances for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. After breaking into the Brazil side this year, he may be looking to move to a bigger club and test himself in the Champions League, which his current club are unlikely to qualify for. He is 23 years old and has the potential to grow into a top attacking midfield talent, while his game differs to that of other South Americans as his game has developed in Europe. He plays the majority of his football at number ten, but he is capable of playing on either flank or as a makeshift striker. He plays the majority of his football at number ten, but he is capable of playing on either flank or as a makeshift striker. In the recent season, he managed to score 7 goals and get 10 assists which is a really good return considering he plays for a mid table side in Germany. Firmino’s game is that of a modern attacking midfielder as he is a good dribbler, capable of beating defenders and is effective at playing through balls to split open defences. The Brazilian enjoys to play centrally and drifts into the middle when he can, but he also works hard defensively and that is an attribute that will be important if he moves to England. Manchester United have been most heavily linked, yet Liverpool and Arsenal are other possible destinations.

Max Meyer

A name that will be familiar to football fans across the globe is Schalke midfielder Max Meyer who many believe to be one of the brightest players coming out of Germany at the moment with comparisons made to Lionel Messi due to similarities in their styles. Meyer is a diminutive playmaker, who has made his mark on the Bundesliga since breaking through at a club renowned for their youth academy. His biggest moment to date came in this season’s Champions League as the teenager showed that he could mix it with the best when his side came up against Real Madrid. He is an effective dribbler capable of beating defenders with his skills while the German is capable of picking a pass as he has showed this season with a pass success rate of above 82%.

Meyer is still young and needs to improve the creative side to his game as he only assisted one goal in the league last season. The teenager has looked good in front of goal though, scoring five times in the 2014/15 season which is a good return considering his age and position. He may remain at Schalke for two or three years yet as he continues to develop, but he is tailormade for Arsenal and I wouldn’t be surprised if Wenger is tracking Meyer’s progress.

Benedikt Howedes

Benedikt Howedes has been heavily linked with Arsenal and Tottenham over the past six months and although he has talked about his desire to stay at his boyhood club Schalke, he could be moving to the Premier League if a suitable bid is made. The defender has been a key side of the German squad for a number of years now, having played every minute of their successful World Cup campaign and during the tournament, he showed his ability to perform in big matches and was an integral part of a strong German back five.He is 27 and getting towards the point in his career when he may opt to leave Schalke and join a side challenging for trophies on a consistent basis. Kevin de Bruyne

The only player on this list who has experience in the Premier League is Kevin de Bruyne, although he rarely featured while on Chelsea’s books. Since leaving Stamford Bridge, the midfielder has flourished and turned Wolfsburg into a really good side capable of challenging at the very top of the league. Manchester City have been heavily linked with de Bruyne, while Manchester United are another club who may look at the Belgian this summer. The attacking player has been in great form over the past 12 months, scoring ten times and getting twenty assists in the Bundesliga, while his performances in the Europa League were also very impressive making some question why Chelsea let him leave the club.

He has tons of ability and his attitude has certainly improved over the past 18 months and a move to Manchester City could suit de Bruyne as they are in desperate need of new players. His creativity makes him the perfect signing as he will provide great service to the likes of Sergio Aguero and Wilfried Bony, while he could be devastating in tandem with David Silva.
