Moussa Sissoko To Liverpool? A Good Deal For The Reds?

Moussa Sissoko To Liverpool?

The need to find fresh attacking options for Liverpool has seen them mostly work on free agents in this transfer market but the papers are reporting that the club are willing to make a £17 million move for Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko. Before Liverpool fans wage an online protest at yet another signing which does not gain confidence in them, it would be wise to note that Liverpool do not have a lot of experience in their midfield and with Lucas Leiva almost on his way out of the club, Liverpool would need to really revamp their midfield which was extremely poor last season.

Sissoko

Jordan Henderson and James Milner might be able to help the club out but would Moussa Sissoko help the team and make them any better this season?

Big money for a big player?

Sissoko has been one of Newcastle’s best players last season, and by best we mean, meandering on average with the occasional glimpse of class and ability. Newcastle’s season was a disaster and while Sissoko did look half decent for the club, he would have to do a lot more to convince fans that he could make a difference at the club.

Liverpool need someone who is dynamic and willing to do a lot of running, which Moussa is capable of doing but he has way too many flashes of good and bad, his inconsistency will not help Liverpool as they look for a go-to guy this season. Last season, Liverpool seemed to know how to do two things, pass the ball to Coutinho or pass it to Sterling and hope for the best. There was no dynamism from the midfield and the club needs someone who can be the dynamite in midfield, unfortunately Moussa is not that player.

Sissoko is tall, lanky and strong, plus he can run all around the pitch making the life difficult for the opposition but Liverpool already have someone similar to that in Jordan Henderson and even Joe Allen is somewhat similar to what Moussa offers, of course Allen is smaller in stature and does not provide the tough tackling that Sissoko does.

The greatest issue would be the price point, spending close to £17 million on a midfielder who has not had the greatest season or a record breaking one at that even, seems a little off from the FSG policy being used to sign players at Liverpool. They could, in theory sign a lot of better players than Sissoko for that amount of money, they would get someone younger as well who does have a lot of potential.

Sissoko isn’t the worst option for Liverpool fans, and he could provide a lot to the club but the price points and his inconsistency wouldn’t help the club in any way as they try to try to fix the issues which plagued their play last season, so far they have not been able to convince anyone that the club can make it back to the Champions League this season. Rodgers is going to have a tough time this season, that is a certainty, and signings like these will not help his position with the Liverpool fans.
