Arsenal vs Burnley report: Arsenal match report

Arsenal bagged a second consecutive victory of their league season by beating Burnley 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbing a goal each.

Arsenal got a few new faces to start the game in David Luiz and Dani Ceballos. Record signing Nicolas Pepe was on the bench once again and Alexandre Lacazette found himself in the starting XI.

Joe Willock and Matteo Guendouzi were given nods once again and Granit Xhaka was the surprise exclusion as he didn’t make the squad.

The Burnley side was unchanged from last week. Burnley tried to unsettle Arsenal’s rhythm as would be expected but Arsenal were tidy on the ball in the first couple of minutes.

Alexandre Lacazette has the first big chance of the game in the 12th minute but that didn’t stop him from scoring a minute later. Dani Ceballos took a corner that hit the first man.

Lacazette got it under control after holding off the Burnley defenders and found the time to take a shot and beat Nick Pope.

Burnley had their first real chance at goal in the 15th minute, with Ashley Barnes coming close after a long ball from Nick Pope. Burnley’s main threat came from long balls and Arsenal had to be careful. Arsenal continued to struggle as Burnley sent another dangerous corner in the 20th minute.

Arsenal continued to dominate possession and Burnley continued to try and unsettle the Arsenal backline with their physicality. Dani Ceballos was in inspired form as he was at the heart of everything in his home debut.

Burnley’s persistence was finally rewarded as Ashley Barnes equalled the scoreline after some good work from Dwight McNeil on the left-hand side as he found Ashley Barnes through on goal in the 43rd minute.

Arsenal nearly got their lead back but the goal was ruled offside. The scores were level at 1-1 at halftime. The big change in the second half was Nicolas Pepe. He came on for Reiss Nelson.

Arsenal had more of the ball in the early minutes and had pegged Sean Dyche’s men back. Burnley were patient and did have to defend a lot.

Arsenal got a big chance in the 60th minute but Pope was once again there to stop Aubameyang. Dani Ceballos continued pulling the strings and got a shot off but Pope made yet another save in the 63rd minute.

Arsenal’s persistence was rewarded as Ceballos won the ball in the midfield, which allowed Aubameyang to get a shot away. Arsenal took the lead to go 2-1 up.

Arsenal started playing with less fear and looked in control. Burnley weren’t a huge threat. Dani Ceballos came off in the 83rd minute to a standing ovation and was replaced by Lucas Torreira. Arsenal were able to hold onto their lead and were ultimately worthy winners on the day.

Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to the win:
