Chelsea: Three Lewandowski Alternatives Mourinho Should Pursue

Share

Chelsea have just gone through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after a 2-0 win away to Derby County. Yet again, Oscar was on the scoresheet, the Brazilian is making a habit to score goals as if he is having dinner on the pitch. Feranando Torres showed flashes of brilliance insisting that the player he was still lurks inside him and Samuel Eto’o tried his best but is unable to have any significant impact over the last few weeks barring his outstretched leg’s tap in winner against Liverpool. With the Blues’ title aspirations, Mourinho must strengthen his attacking department if they are to beat the best of defences come in the second half of the season.

Chelsea’s long term target Robert Lewandowski has singed a 5-year deal with Bayern Munich recently ending the Blues dreams of landing the Polish sensation at the Stamford Bridge. Today we here at Soccersouls provide you three alternate strikers Chelsea must target this Transfer window.

Diego Costa:

The 25 year old striker has caused mayhem in the La Liga this campaign with his blistering strikes and deft finishes and has lit up Athletico’s chances of realistically toppling both Barcelona and Real Madrid for the title. Chelsea too have their realistic title ambitions clearly in front of them, they need a striker who is more than capable of the existing crop in Eto’o, Torres and Demba Ba. With the triumvirate of Oscar, Hazard and Willian playing in the midfield system of Mourinho’s preferred 4-2-3-1 which changes to a 4-2-1-3 while attacking, Costa will not be short of any balls in the final third.

Mourinho clearly has plenty of cash to splurge in this transfer window and its only a matter of time perhaps before Jose puts a deal on the table of the Spanish side who have the reputation of producing strikers year in and year out.

Loic Remy:

Not many people know that the loan agreement between QPR and Newcastle United can be broken if the Championship side wants too. Remy is having a terrific campaign at Tyneside reminding why he was one of the feared strikers in Ligue 1. The Frenchman has this unique ability to run at defenders, his dazzling sprints and dynamism on the ball. Moreover Remy has good ball holding skills which is so important when it comes to using a striker as an outlet and hold the ball up front to take defenders out of position and creating space for your wingers.

The Frenchman is a class act which is evident at the Toons and might well be a surprise move for Mourinho before the transfer window slams shut. Remy has also dropped a bombshell that he is certain to leave Newcastle if they fail to finish in a Champions League position. Is Mourinho listening?

Christain Benteke:

Yes the Belgian hasn’t been prolific like last season, but that’s understandable given he has struggled for the majority of this campaign and has been affected by injuries. Benteke will bring that extra zip in attack and dynamism with his flashy brilliance and a touch of class that once Drogba had infront of Chelsea’s attacking line-up, a fresh sense of exuberance which is missing in the final third. Chelsea have a habit of signing future stars and Benteke’s sign on the dotted papers at Stamford Bridge might well be another addition to that account.
