Chelsea Player Ratings Against West Ham: Matic Hits an All Time Low

Asmir Begovic, 5

He was beaten at his near post from the edge of the box by Zarate for West Ham’s first goal. But, Begovic couldn’t have done anything for the second goal as Chelsea’s defence was poor in set-pieces and it allowed Carroll to score.

Kurt Zouma, 5.5

The young Frenchman initially looked uncomfortable in the right-back position to match Dimitri Payet with the pace, but was solid in the air and improved as the game progressed. He almost equalised with a header only to see Lanzini cleared the ball off the line.

Gary Cahill, 6

A battling defensive performance was embellished with a cracking goal that equalised from Chelsea.

John Terry, 4.5

A mixed game for the Chelsea skipper, who was making his 450th start in the Premier League. Made several important blocks, but looked hesitant at set pieces and uncertain in the presence of Carroll. He failed to clear the ball and that led for West Ham’s second goal.

Cesar Azpilicueta, 5

Azpilicueta struggled with the physicality of Diafra Sakho and pace of Payet. He was culpable for allowing Carroll the freedom to score the winning header. The Spaniard was booked midway through the first half for fouling Carl Jenkinson.

Ramires, 5

He struggled to cope up with the creativity and zest of Payet and Lanzini. He was replaced by Radamel Falcao for the last 10 minutes.

Nemanja Matic, 1

An irresponsible performance from the Serb.He was yellow carded in the 35th minute for tugging Cheikhou Kouyate’s shirt and fouling Sakho. A second yellow card and dismissal followed, leaving Chelsea a man down for the entire second period.

Willian, 7

Typically tigerish box-to-box performance from the Brazilian, who has consistently been the Blues’ best player this season. Booked late on.

Cesc Fabregas, 5

Started brightly in an advanced role and scored a goal, but saw his effort ruled offside. Joined Diego Costa in getting a yellow card for debating the dismissal of Matic and was substituted at half-time for Mikel.

Eden Hazard, 5.5

Hazard had little opportunity to get into the game and showed some inventiveness and guile early in the second half when Chelsea enjoyed their best spell of the match. Still remains a shadow of the player who carried all before him last season.

Diego Costa, 5

Costa had an average outing as failed to convert the limited chances created by the midfield and later found it difficult to get going. Booked for arguing over Matic’s second yellow.
