Chelsea Dream XI Next Season – Diego Costa To Spearhead The Attack

Share

Chelsea have enormous depth in their side, but still they are not a complete side. They need one or two signings in Summer, especially a clinical/physical striker who will make this Chelsea side a formidable one in Europe.

Chelsea Dream XI Next Season

Goal Keeper And Defense

1. Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois

It would be any Chelsea fan’s dream to have the Belgian shot stopper playing as the first choice keeper next season. There have been a lot of rumors about Courtois wanting a permanent move to Atletico if Chelsea can’t guarantee him first team football. There have also been rumors of a swap deal involving him and his Atleti team-mate Diego Costa.

Despite all rumors, the dream would be to have the world’s best young goal keeper and arguably among the top 5 keepers in the world overall, to play as Chelsea no.1 giving some tough and real competition to legend PetrCech.

2. Right Back: Cesar Azpilicueta

This season, Azpilicueta’s defending has been a revelation. The pace, the stamina and his work rate in defense made Mourinho play him at his unflavored left back position instead of the regular first choice Ashley Cole for most part of the season. By now it is obvious that the Spaniard has adapted to Mourinho’s ways of coaching and his demands. Cesar Azpilicueta will add more quality as a right back as he would have better quality going forward as he can cross better than BranislavIvanovic. The Serbian will have very tough competition from the Spaniard, despite having a good season himself.

3. Center Back: Gary Cahill

Cahill has put in his heart and soul in the defense this year and has cherished life alongside Captain John Terry. Steadily developing into a tactician, Gary Cahill has quickly learnt how to organize a defense together with Terry. Cahill’s rise from a substitute to David Luiz to a regular first choice under Mourinho is commendable. He has been one of the reasons why Chelsea have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season.

4. Center Back: Kurt Zouma

The young French defender is a very promising player with an incredible physical built tailor made for the Premier League. John Terry has clearly shown signs of ageing especially in the past few games as he was tormented by sheer pace. With younger Zouma in the team, Chelsea defense will have the legs to stop counter attacks, the way David Luiz used to do under Rafael Benitez.

Despite that John Terry is expected to be here for at least one more season as club captain. But it is tough to not have Zouma playing first team football. Mourinho has shown that he has an eye for a defensive player as he brought in young Raphael Varane into a star studded Real Madrid starting line-up replacing Pepe. Varane did an excellent job in stopping Lionel Messi.

5. Left Back: Luke Shaw

Chelsea are need of a long term quality left-back and are targeting Southampton’s prodigy Luke Shaw. Luke Shaw admitting that he’s a Chelsea fan has made the Blues favourites to land him. Finance is not an issue for the Blues as they are willing to offer any reasonable transfer fee demanded by Southampton.

18 year old Luke Shaw has the stamina, pace and resilience to play in any top team. He has already played as a first choice left-back for Southampton in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons proving him in the league. Under Chelsea, he has only one way to go and that is towards growth.

Chelsea have made him one of their priorities as Shaw looks forward for a World Cup place. A hefty bid from the Blues would be tough to ignore and Shaw is expected to become the traditional Left-Back that the Blues wanted.

Central Midfielders

6. Defensive Midfield: Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic has been brilliant ever since his transfer from Benfica bringing him back to his previous club. Mourinho has been praising him for his assured and solid performances in the Premier League. Next year he won’t be cup tied and it would also be exciting to see him the Champions League.

Having impressed a lot in his first comeback season as a top player, his next season will be key to the Club as Mourinho has already said that 2014-15 season is when Chelsea will actually contend for the title.

7. Defensive Midfield: David Luiz/Ramires

Chelsea have two options in this spot and that is Ramires or David Luiz. It is a 50-50 for the Brazilians and it would be that way next season as well. David Luiz has time and again shown that he is more technically gifted than most center backs and thus has the confidence to play in defensive midfield. His performance against Paris Saint Germain was commendable especially when he alone stopped the counter attacks after Chelsea were playing with 3 center forwards. Mourinho praised him by calling him a “monster” in the midfield.

Ramires has been the same incredible engine breathing down the opposition’s neck whenever they are in the midfield. Ramires has been used more as a destroyer as he is expected to break down plays and tackle too often. Despite many fans’ criticism about Ramires’ lack of quality, Mourinho will always have faith in him because of his stamina and work rate which is more than twice than that of any other player.

8. Central Attacking Midfield: Oscar

Oscar has been the first choice number 10 for Jose Mourinho and arguably, he has played well to justify his position. Oscar has learnt well to cope up with the extra pressure that Mourinho puts on his players and has worked hard both in attack and defense giving him more game time for his solidity as well. He is diminutive but he closes down opponents with unprecedented aggression and he’s someone who dives into tackles. His attacking attributes were never questioned, and now as he has put in his defensive attributes on show, Oscar will be a delight next season as he works under Mourinho for the second time.

Wingers and Strikers

Hazard

9. Left Wing: Eden Hazard

Who else but Hazard as the first choice! Eden Hazard has been among the best players in the league this season and next season he is expected to be the best, not just among the best.

Hazard has been the heart and soul of Chelsea’s attack as he was the playmaker playing from the left hand side of the pitch, drifting in and creating the game for the Blues.

Next season, he will be playing his second season under Mourinho and will be playing in the team that is expected to win the League which was declared by Mourinho himself.

10. Right Wing: Willian

Willian has been amazing this season. His work rate as well as his strength for a comparatively smaller man have been major reasons for him included in the first team. Like any other Brazilian, he is extremely versatile and can play anywhere behind the striker. Willian has great pace, dribbling and vision to create chances, especially on the counter attack, which often makes him the complete power house in crucial away matches. Will be amazing when he has a proper pre-season.

11. Centre Forward: Diego Costa

Who else but Diego Costa! It is widely rumored that Costa is the first primary target for Mourinho and it is also expected that Chelsea will be favorites to land the Brazil born Spain International in Stamford Bridge.

Having scored 25 goals already in the Spanish League and competing with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, Costa has been instrumental in Atletico Madrid’s ridiculously amazing season this year. It would be exciting to have Costa in the team as the lone center forward with his strength and aggression enabling him to play any time of game, be in the areas of lack of space or in counter attacks.
