Dundee vs Celtic FC Report: Celtic FC match report

The only game on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership this weekend saw Celtic travel to Dens Park and they played out a tight 1-0 win against 11th-placed Dundee as they succeeded in their attempt to widen the lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 10 points.

As expected, it was the away side that started the game in the ascendancy and they began pushing for the opening goal right from the first minute. Although the game did start quite shabbily with both teams repeatedly losing the ball, it all calmed down in a few minutes.

Within the opening 10 minutes of the game though, Celtic’s dominance was starting to become clear as Dundee were forced to defend deep to try and fend off the Hoops’ continuous forward approaches.

With all 11 players defending inside their own half, Celtic did find it difficult to break them down, which meant that Scott Brown and the two Hoops centre-halves were seeing a lot of the ball as they kept it moving from side to side in an attempt to catch the organised Dundee defence out.

The closest that the Celts got in the first half was from a corner as a James Forrest shot on the volley found perfect contact on the ball. Despite the ball heading towards the target, a Dundee defender was able to get a block in on the line to keep the game goalless.

Even after this, Celtic kept pushing but they just seemed to be lacking that killer pass or strike at the end of their expansive and free-flowing attacks. As the game wore on, Scott Sinclair started to come into the game more and more.

Despite this constant pressure from Celtic though, Dundee were always a threat on the break but because they were defending for their lives with every man behind the ball right from the opening knockings of the game, this didn’t work out the way they would’ve hoped.

But the second half didn’t see the pattern of the game change as Neil Lennon’s men kept pushing to find the solitary goal that would take them 10 points clear of Rangers to effectively seal the title for the Hoops.

They kept pushing for the opener but the Dundee defence held strong and despite all their different approaches, none of the attacking tactics seemed to be working against a stubborn and inspired looking side.

Despite finishing the game with over 20 shots and more than 5 on target, they were only able to score a single goal on the night and it came in the stoppage time from former PSG man Odsonne Edouard. Like he did so often on the night, Forrest played the ball in from the by-line and Edouard was on the spot to smash it home and steal all three points at Dens Park.

Here’s how some ecstatic Celtic fans reacted this late victory:
