Why Celtic selling Calvin Miller would be good for the player

According to a report in Evening Times, English club Portsmouth want to sign Celtic youngster Calvin Miller on a loan deal before the deadline of the summer transfer window. The transfer window of League One/Two clubs are open along side other clubs in Europe.

The 21-year-old, a Scotland U21 international, is an academy product at Celtic. He has already served two short-term loan spells at Ayr United and Dundee United in the past.

The youngster is now deemed surplus to requirement by current manager Neil Lennon. He is all set to leave Parkhead before the deadline. (h/t Evening Times)

On the other hand, Portsmouth boss is keen on having the left-back cum left-winger on a loan deal with an option of buying him later. (h/t Evening Times)

Here’s why Celtic offloading Miller is the right decision and how it would suit the player:

Better to play and get better rather than waiting

Calvin Miller is a versatile left-sided player, who prefers to play at left-back but is comfortable operating as a left-winger/ right-winger if required.

He has made only five appearances for Celtic’s first-team but has done well for their reserves and also during loan spells at Ayr United and Dundee United. The 21-year-old is a quality player but he needs more game time to further refine himself.

In terms of his attributes, Miller possesses good pace to make runs up and down the field from wide areas. He is a good dribbler of the ball and is a decent defender in one-v-one situations. However, he could do better with his crossing.

At the tender age of 21, he will improve and learn more by playing first-team football often. That’s the only way he can hope to make the cut at the top level.

Conclusion

If Celtic are looking to sell/loan out Calvin Miller, it is the right decision and it would aid the future of the player and his development.
