Why Leicester City have made the right move by handing Choudhury a new deal

Leicester City are looking good with 4 games and 8 points. They had a fantastic result on Saturday against Bournemouth and will be going into the international break on the right track.

Last week, according to a report in Sky Sports, Hamza Choudhury had been rewarded with a new contract that will keep him at the club till 2023. The 21-year-old is a local boy, who has seen the highs and lows through the years as a Foxes fan.

It’ll bring great joy to Leicester faithful to see one of their own securing his future at the club.

Choudhury is of West Indian and Bangladeshi descent and has already represented the England U21 youth squad at the European Championship earlier in the summer. He came through the academy, even appearing as a ball boy in that time.

The 21-year-old made his Leicester debut in a 2-0 win over Liverpool in the EFL Cup in August 2017 and has gone on to make 25 appearances for the club. He had his big break in the second half of last season under Claude Puel and has continued to be a regular in the squad under Brendan Rodgers.

Choudhury is still fairly raw as a midfielder and has so many facets to his game that could be improved upon with the right coaching. He’s very agile and can go from box-to-box with ease. He’s vital in defensive transitions as that is where his strengths lie but he’s also great at carrying the ball from the defence to the attack.

He’s extremely committed to his duels, which can often be reckless but this nasty streak will put him in good stead for the future.

Leicester have a young and vibrant squad and they face Manchester United in a massive game at Old Trafford after the international break.

A win at Old Trafford will be a clear marker that they’re in the race for the top-four. Hamza Choudhury is just one player among many who is part of a brave new future.
