Celtic have made the right move by loaning out Ewan Henderson

According to the Glasgow Evening Times, Celtic starlet Ewan Henderson has joined newly-promoted Scottish Premiership side Ross County on a season-long loan deal. 

The 19-year-old featured once in the Champions League qualifying rounds and twice in the Scottish Challenge Cup for Celtic this term before moving out on loan to Ross County on transfer deadline day. 

A youth product of Celtic, Henderson came through the youth ranks at Parkhead, winning the Glasgow Cup with the U-17s back in 2017, whilst also featuring in the Scottish Challenge Cup a and the UEFA Youth League with older age groups in the same year. 

The midfielder was handed his senior professional debut for the Hoops against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership towards the end of the 2017-18 campaign and his first start came in February 2019, where he bagged the man-of-the-match award for his stellar performance in a 4-1 win against Motherwell.  

Henderson, who has already represented Scotland at U-17 and U-19 levels, is yet to make a senior international appearance for his nation but he continues to be a highly-rated prospect at Parkhead. 

The teenager is widely regarded as a player with the potential to go on and play at the highest level in his country and he has already taken strides towards fulfilling that over the course of his fledgeling career at the senior level. 

The homegrown starlet has made 7 appearances for Celtic in all competitions till date and few would back against him adding to that tally provided the 19-year-old continues his development down the right path. 

Having played a bit-part role in the first-team at Parkhead last season, Henderson needed to move out on loan this summer to give himself a better chance of furthering his development with more regular minutes under his belt and the teenager is likely to find it easy to adapt to a newly-promoted club in the same division.

To that end, the 19-year-old’s loan move to Ross County looks like a fair settlement for all parties involved.

Indeed, Henderson is a real talent but he needs time to hone his skills to a level that he would be able to challenge for a first-team role at Celtic and a successful loan stint could pave the way for him to play a more significant role next term. 

With that in mind, Neil Lennon is likely to keep a keen eye on one of the club’s highly-rated emerging talents and, given that the 19-year-old is going to spend the ongoing season in the same division, Celtic should find it easy to monitor his development closely.

All in all, this loan spell marks the first big step in the youngster’s development process and the Hoops will be hoping that he comes through with flying colours.
