Can Tottenham Maintain Their Unbeaten Run Against Arsenal? North London Derby Preview

Share

Arsenal welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, November 6 in the top of the table clash in the Premier League. The current form of the Gunners has made football pundits and bookmakers to pitch their tent towards them as the favourable winner of the tie putting them at of 21/20 as against Tottenham’s 12/5.

Arsenal are currently in the form of their lives; they are on a run of fifteen unbeaten matches in all competitions, they almost lost that against Lugo Razgd but rallied to win by 3-2 after going two goals down. They currently occupied the second position on the Premier League table and same points with table topper Manchester City on 23 points while Tottenham are fifth with 20 points.

Even though they have not been finding it rosy in the Champions League Tottenham ended Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the season in an impressive 2-0 win in the league on October 2nd and they could pose the same threat to the Gunners who are yet to lose to their top of the table opponents since the 3-4 loss to Liverpool on the opening day of the season.

Tottenham has not finished above Arsenal in 21 years though they almost did that last season but a humiliating 5-1 defeat to an already Newcastle United on the last day of the season saw Arsenal snatched the second position from them.

Tottenham remain the only unbeaten team in the Premier League but have drawn five of their ten league games this season, including drawing their last three league matches which doesn’t sound good enough. But they will be hoping to extend that unbeaten run in the North London Derby.

The White Hart Lane outfits can, however be boosted by the return of main striker Harry Kane. The English striker has not featured for his club since picking up an injury in the match against Sunderland mid- September. He must have been rested by Coach Mauricio Pochettino as he was not in the team that played against Bayern Leverkusen in the midweek, probably to make him fresh for the match against their London rival.

The 23-year-old has scored four times against the Gunners in three matches and he is expected to add to their fire power up front. Despite a potential boost envisaged up front, Tottenham will still be without the services of arguably their best defender Toby Alderweirld.

The Belgian international has not kicked a ball for his side since he was injured in the match against West Brom at The Hawthorns two weeks ago. He has played the full ninety minutes in each of his side games till then and has been instrumental to their defensive record of fewer goals conceded this season in the league.
