Scouting For Wenger: Do Arsenal Need Any New Additions This January?

Share

The transfer window’s just around the corner and we’re starting to wonder what should every big club do in order to stay relevant in the most important half of the season, as the competition’s getting narrower by the day and there’s less room for mistakes every week.

Several clubs are thriving right now to start the season, so you wouldn’t want to mess with their chemistry. Nevertheless, as other teams make adjustments to your style of play, you should also change things a bit and try to reinforce your side with a key player or two.

One of the teams that could be on the hunt for some reinforcements is Arsenal, as the gunners are finally having a dream like season and they don’t want to wake up with another nightmare in the last part of the season as they’ve done in the past few seasons where they’ve felt short in their efforts of becoming Premier League champions.

Wenger’s team is having an outstanding year and since the beginning of the season, when they fell against Jurgen Klopp’s amazing Liverpool, they haven’t lost a single game, winning 12 matches and drawing in the other three, owning a 15 game undefeated streak, a very impressive number even for one of the most important teams in the world.

So, looking at those numbers you couldn’t say there’s something actually wrong with the French boss’s system or squad so far, and it’ll be hard to find a spot in the roster that could do better in the second half of the season.

If you look at the Gunner’s squad position by position, you’ll find few spots left for a new face. In the goalkeeping area, they’ve got everything more than covered with a pair of veterans in Petr Cech and David Ospina, for instance.

However, when it comes to the defense, there’s a bit of a room for improvement, as Laurent Koscielny’s aging, Per Mertesacker’s struggling to stay healthy, Rob Holding’s still pretty young and Hector Bellerin is the only strong competitor for the spot, so looking for a nice defender wouldn’t be a crazy thing to do for the North London institution.

The midfield area’s pretty loaded in all the positions, so you couldn’t say that the Gunners actually need anybody here even if Santi Cazorla winds up leaving the club, as Aaron Ramsey has already returned to full health after the injury he suffered during the Euros.

Last but not least, the offensive front of the Gunners has also little room for improvement, as Wenger has found a perfect combination with Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, with an inspired Giroud coming off the bench.

However, Arsenal fans aren’t quite happy with the French striker, who doesn’t seem like the most trustworthy option, so they wouldn’t mind if they try and sign another forward in order to finally say goodbye to the French. Nevertheless, this won’t be an easy task, as there’s not much of a market for proven goalscorers right now, and their eternal target Alexandre Lacazette is set to have his contract extended.
