Burnley opinion: Maupay would be a smart signing for the Clarets

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Burnley are stepping up their pursuit to sign Brentford star, Neal Maupay. The Frenchman 22, joined Brentford from Saint-Etienne in 2017, and he’s become a fan favourite at Griffin Park with two goal-filled seasons.

After scoring 13 goals in the 2017/18 campaign, he took a huge step forward this past term, smashing 28 goals in all competitions, emerging as one of the Championship’s top strikers.

Unsurprisingly, Maupay, who has two years left on his contract with Brentford, has also attracted interest from Sevilla, Aston Villa and Sheffield United. The report adds the Bees will not sell their striker cheaply and are demanding £20million.

That being said, Burnley should meet Brentford’s valuation and bring Neal Maupay to the Turf Moor to add more bite to his attack.

Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes scored 22 goals between them last season but they found very little support from the likes of Peter Crouch, Matej Vydra and Aaron Lennon.

Young Dwight McNeil was the rare source of pace and creativity for the Clarets, playing a key role for Sean Dyche’s side on the left flank. Somehow, Burnley avoided the drop from the Premier League but things must improve if they are to stay away from another relegation dogfight.

Given that Lennon has struggled for form and fitness, Vydra failed to impress in his debut season at Turf Moor and Robbie Brady hasn’t been able to cement his place in the first-team, Dyche should look to add depth and quality to the attacking ranks.

To put things into perspective, Maupay might be a good choice for Burnley given that he has not only enjoyed a fantastic season in the Championship but has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs as well.

Maupay has quickly established himself as one of the Championship’s best goalscorers. He knows where the goal is and one of his game’s most striking features is his ability to hold the ball in the attacking areas.

He is physical, strong and creative and has the burst of pace to leave defenders behind. The Frenchman has got all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League and a manager like Sean Dyche could help get the best out of him.

The forward is just 22, so there’s still plenty of time for him to develop and get even better.

Considering that Dyche’s team play on the break, the former France youth international’s pace and power would add a lot more potency to Burnley’s attack.

Although Maupay lacks Premier League experience, he is worth the gamble and is a kind of striker Burnley can rely on to score a goal when the opportunity arises.
