Burnley Opinion: Should Burnley make a move for Andreas Pereira

Burnley and manager Sean Dyche were one of the shocks of last season, starting the Premier League with a win over Chelsea. They continued their form with draws against Tottenham, Liverpool, West Ham, Manchester United, even beating Everton.

And it proved to be a great season, as they finished seventh in the league with a Europa League qualifying spot to boast of.

However, things haven’t been the same this season and at the moment, the Clarets need reinforcements. They have lost a large majority of their games so far, winning just 8 out of the 29 they’ve played.

This has put the pressure on manager Sean Dyche and the club but at the moment, they might just survive. If they do survive, then Burnley have to add a few reinforcements in the summer window to be able to do the same next season.

This should include new strikers and wingers but one man that the Clarets should make a move for is Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira. The 23-year-old has not been a regular this season but with recent injuries, he has gotten a chance to prove his talent.

Pereira has done that and more, scoring one goal and providing one assist in his third start of the season after being iced out by former manager Jose Mourinho. The youngster showed exactly what he could do, using his wit and creativity to cause big problems for Southampton.

However, that’s not why the Clarets have to make a move for him. At the moment, Dyche is using Johann Berg Gudmundsson as a number 10 and while the 28-year-old can play there, his abilities are more as a winger.

That has posed a few problems for the club this season, and that’s where Andreas Pereira can step in.

The 23-year-old’s preferred position is as a number 10 and he’s versatile enough to play deeper or as a winger. This will allow Gudmundsson to do what he does best and terrorise teams from the right wing.

Conclusion

Instinctive, creative and very tricky with the ball, the Belgian-born Brazilian would be a great addition to the side. While he has been inconsistent in front of the net, that’s because of a severe lack of game time.

Playing regularly will change that as it showed during his loan spells with both Valencia and Granada CF in the La Liga. Add that to the fact that his contract expires at the end of the current season, Burnley can get an absolute bargain for a quality star.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
