Celtic Player Ratings vs Rangers – Here’s how the Hoops fared on the day

Celtic won the season’s first Old Firm derby when they beat Rangers 1-0 in a competitive game. Brendan Rodgers’ men became the first team to inflict defeat on Rangers under the new era of Steven Gerrard.

Celtic were slightly unlucky in the first-half as they hit the crossbar several times and Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor made some good saves. Olivier Ntcham was the star for the Hoops, who eventually scored the winner after an hour.

Celtic Player Ratings

Craig Gordon (6)

Was never tested as Rangers failed to really lay a glove. Made one simple save.

Mikael Lustig (6)

Wasn’t tested defensively and was unlucky to hit the bar in the first half.

Dedryck Boyata

Dedryck Boyata (7)

A commanding performance in central defence from the Belgian, who dominated his defensive area with ease.

Kristoffer Ajer (7)

Dealt with little dangers from Rangers and was a nuisance in the opposition box. Could have won two penalties.

Kieran Tierney (7)

Always an outball in the attack for the Hoops as he wasn’t tested defensively. Very tidy in possession.

Olivier Ntcham (9)

A classy performance from the midfielder, who would consider himself unlucky not to have scored more than once in this game. Provided moments of quality.

Scott Brown (6)

Was booked early on, but worked hard in the midfield against a tenacious opposition. He does the dirty work without much fuss, which allows Ntcham to showcase his potential going forward.

James Forrest

James Forrest (7.5)

A very good display from the forward, who hit the bar with a rasping drive and created several chances. Assisted the only goal of the game.

Tom Rogic (5.5)

Was crowded out by Rangers defenders whenever he recieved the ball.

Callum McGregor (6)

A quiet afternoon for the forward where none of his passes or movements were channeling with the forward movements of other players.

Odsonne Edouard (5)

Back from the injury and looked very rusty. Missed a glorious chance to open the scoring.

Substitutes

Scott Sinclair (Subbed on after 92 mins) (N/A)

No time to impact the game.

Ryan Christie (Subbed on after 77 mins) (5.5)

Replaced the frustrated Rogic to add more energy in midfield.
