Dedryck Boyata, who was targeted by Celtic fans through a banner claiming “he is not fit to wear the jersey”, responded by scoring the only goal for the Scottish champions to beat Hamilton in a game which lacked verve.
This victory has placed Brendan Rodgers’ men second in the table with the Old Firm derby coming up next week. It was not a performance which will fill the manager with great pride, however, his team did just enough to grind out a win and remain on course before a huge game next week.
Here’s how the Celtic players rated against Hamilton:
Wasn’t called upon to make several saves as Hamilton were happy to sit deep and soak up the pressure.
Again as mentioned earlier, Lustig wasn’t tested defensively because the opposition was so deep in their own half. Assisted the Boyata goal.
Scored the only goal of the game and commanded the backline, even though there wasn’t much to do. A good way to win some support back.
Played decently in a defence which remained untested for most of the game.
Tried to make things happen from the right wing-back position and he almost played as a right-winger. He nearly scored the opener, only for the Hamilton keeper to deny the effort.
Kept things ticking in the midfield but he could have done better to involve himself in the attacks as Celtic had three defenders at the back.
Tried his best to unlock the door but couldn’t/ He should have done better with the lovely chance he received from Kieran Tierney down the left-hand side.
Tierney was the only one who offered verve and attacking outlet for Rodgers’ men. Created a presentable chance for McGregor, only for the midfielder to miss.
Rogic was tireless with his work-rate, constantly looking for a threading pass or a shot towards the goal. But it just didn’t happen for him.
Was involved in the solitary goal of the game. In addition, he also contributed to a few of the goalscoring moments created by Celtic. His lovely curling shot from 20 yards clipped the crossbar and missed a header from point-blank range to sum the day up.
It was his corner which brought the goal but his performance was nowhere near the best.
Came on to add creativity but couldn’t provide that.
Couldn’t impact the game enough.
