Brendan Rodgers to make 2 important changes – Strongest 4-2-3-1 Celtic XI to face Rosenborg

Predicted Celtic line-up to face Rosenborg in the Europa League

Scottish champions Celtic start their Europa League campaign by hosting Rosenborg at the Parkhead on Thursday.

This is the third time this season that the two sides are facing each other as the duo faced off in the Champions League qualifier, with Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops getting the better of their Norwegian opponents over the two legs.

It made for a less than ideal preparation for the UEL curtain-raiser as Rodgers’ side were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by St. Mirren on Friday.

However, having seen off Rosenborg with relative ease recently, Celtic will fancy their chances of securing a similar result on Thursday.

Team News

Jozo Simunovic, Jack Hendry and Nir Bitton all are still injured, while Lewis Morgan and Marvin Compper are fast approaching 100% fitness.

Probable Celtic XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Brendan Rodgers

Craig Gordon (GK)

Celtic’s undisputed first-choice in goal, Gordan is expected to start against Rosenborg on Thursday.

Mikael Lustig (RB)

Lustig had to be satisfied with a place on the bench against St. Mirren after recovering from a slight injury. However, he could start this game at right-back.

Dedryck Boyata (CB)

Boyata’s return to the starting XI has solidified Celtic’s defence. With the Belgian in the side, the Hoops look secure at the back.

Kristoffer Ajer

Kristoffer Ajer (CB)

Ajer should partner Boyata at the back against Rosenborg. The youngster has been impressive this season and will hope to continue his good form for Celtic.

Kieran Tierney (LB)

Tierney is an aggressive full-back who provides width to the team. He has established himself as a reliable attacking outlet and will start this game.

Scott Brown (CM)

Celtic skipper Scott Brown will have a major role to play from the base of the midfield. Rodgers will need his captain to step up on a big European night.

Olivier Ntcham (CM)

Ntcham is a goal threat for the Bhoys, who offers steel and creativity from the midfield. He is a definite starter for this game.

James Forrest (RW)

James Forrest can stretch the Rosenborg defence with his explosive pace and dribbling skills. He would be an important player for the Bhoys on Thursday.

Tom Rogic (CAM)

Rogic has been really poor in the last few games for Celtic and it’s high time he starts delivering the goods.

Callum McGregor (LW)

McGregor’s incisive passing and creativity keep Celtic ticking. He should start the game on the left wing.

Leigh Griffiths (ST)

A big game player, Griffiths should start ahead of Edouard as Celtic’s lone man up front.
