It is being suggested now that manager Louis van Gaal did have the option of re-signing Dimitar Berbatov this summer, though he rejected it, after he was approached by the former Bulgarian international’s agent. The Mirror reported, via The Sun on Sunday that there were claims that the Red Devils were not keen on bringing the 34-year-old superstar back to Old Trafford.
After failing to secure his return to the Premier League, Berbatov eventually signed for Greek club PAOK, after he left Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco as a free agent. After a long list of players speculated to be heading to Manchester, eventually the Dutch manager signed Berbatov’s former teammate Anthony Martial, who has had a great start to life in England.
There were questions asked whether the £36m-rated, inexperienced, 19-year-old star striker was worth signing for United though the France international has already scored three goals in as many appearances and proved his worth.
