Tottenham opinion: Pochettino should make a move for Thomas Strakosha

Italian news outlet Calciomercato has reported that Tottenham have reignited interest in Serie A star Thomas Strakosha. Currently contracted to Lazio, the 24-year-old has been brilliant for the club, climbing up their youth ranks.

However, it was his spell at Salernitana that really saw the young goalkeeper establish himself as a promising prospect. The 6ft 3in star has been impeccable for Lazio, playing every game this season, missing just four games in the Europa League.

The 24-year-old was rested for those 4 games, with Lazio challenging for the Europa League. At the moment, they sit 7^th in the Serie A.

The likes of Atalanta, AS Roma, Sampdoria and Torino are all in the race, with just three points separating 9th-placed Torino and Lazio. It’s a race to watch and one that should get even more complicated as the season moves towards the end.

Thomas Strakosha has been a key part of that battle and as a result, it is no surprise that Tottenham are after him.

The North London have seen their title challenge collapse over the last few weeks, including losses to Southampton, Liverpool, Chelsea and Burnley, which has seen them drop out of the top three.

While there have been other issues at play, one main problem for Tottenham has been Hugo Lloris’ form this season. A World Cup winner with France, Lloris has struggled to keep clean sheets and that has affected the club.

Their defensive record has been terrible this season and the game against Liverpool showcased exactly that. The Frenchman has been a liability and at the age of 32, he doesn’t have too long and his decline has been witnessed over the last few seasons.

Tottenham need a new goalkeeper and adding someone as talented as Thomas Strakosha will definitely improve their chances. Like most of the Premier league’s top six, the North London side are chasing a title but have no chance without improving their back-line.
