Arsenal Opinion: Why the Gunners should go all out to sign Everton Soares?

According to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, Arsenal are preparing a bid worth of £35m for Gremio forward Everton Soares. Napoli are also interested but have yet to make a formal approach. (h/t the Daily Star)

Everton Soares, 23, has caught the attention after playing such a crucial role in Brazil’s Copa America triumph earlier this month. He scored three goals for his country, including in the 3-1 win over Peru in the final.

Arsenal fans were treated to a double transfer delight on Thursday as deals for Dani Ceballos and William Saliba were confirmed. They penned deals to become the club’s second and third signing of the summer, joining striker Gabriel Martinelli in making the move to north London.

With less than two weeks left for the transfer window to close, however, Unai Emery must now shift his attention towards strengthening the wide department.

The Gunners have released Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey earlier this summer, so Emery must bring in at least one versatile forward to bolster his attacking options.

The Arsenal boss has Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to call upon upfront, with summer signing Gabriel Martinelli also now a good option for him ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Everton Soares could compete with all three for a regular spot in Arsenal’s line up. He has had a great last 12-18 months for his club and country and would be a fine addition to Emery’s squad.

Predominantly a left-winger, the 23-year-old can also play on the right or through the middle when required. He is a typical modern-day inverted winger who likes to cut inside on to his right foot and test goalkeepers with his powerful long-range efforts.

Blessed with pace, power and dribbling skills, Everton would add the much-needed spark and flair to the Gunners attack as they looked out of sorts quite a lot of times last season. His addition will ease the creative burden off the shoulders of Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan—the duo who had an underwhelming 2018/19 campaign.

Everton, however, isn’t a player who can hold off defenders or outmuscle them in a physical duel.

Thus, he may take some time to adapt to the rigours of English football. Eventually, nevertheless, the Gremio star would be expected to flourish in an Arsenal shirt.

Verdict

The Brazil international has the talent to shine in the Premier League. Hence, the Gunners must push the transfer through quickly with Napoli still prowling in the background.
