Why Arsenal must secure Max Aarons’ signature ahead of Tottenham

According to reports from the Sun, Norwich City right-back Max Aarons has triggered interest from London’s top clubs including Arsenal as his performances this season for the Canaries have been sublime.

The report suggests that the Gunners’ interest in the 19-year-old is shared by Premier League rivals Tottenham and Chelsea as well, which could eventually lead to a bidding war for the man rated by the Norwich chiefs at £15m.

Arsenal are currently going through a revolution and when the uproar is complete and all the infrastructure is back in order, they could turn into a real superpower. But this being Emery’s first season in charge, there are various concerns that need to be addressed.

The most glaring issue is their sheer defensive fragility, which begs the question as to why they didn’t make any moves for defenders during the winter transfer window.

The Gunners’ injury list just never seems to get shorter and with star wing-back Hector Bellerin ruled out for the season with a ruptured ACL, the need for a good replacement is clear.

Stephan Lichtsteiner, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and long-time back-up Carl Jenkinson are the alternatives in this position which will be a real cause of worry for Emery in the coming months. Though Maitland-Niles is a talented youngster, his future certainly isn’t at right-back.

Arsenal have always been a club who have believed in and nurtured the quality of young players. Matteo Guendouzi is a prime example of this as the 19-year-old, who was signed from Ligue 2, has now become an integral part of the Gunners’ system.

A similar plan must be followed to acquire the services of highly-rated Norwich star Max Aarons. He is currently serving his first year with the senior team at Carrow Road but has impressed heavily with his top-class displays.

Extremely pacy and difficult to track, this English sensation has the ability to beat any man while his attacking qualities, including his crossing, are excellent. His defensive work rate makes him stand out as a player. Having developed as a part of the English game, his ability to read the play will certainly suit the dynamic nature of the Premier League.

His potential has been watched by multiple clubs and Arsenal must make it a priority to bring the star man to Arsenal in the summer window. Given the defensive injury crisis that Arsenal are currently facing, bringing in some assurances certainly wouldn’t hurt Unai Emery’s plans.
