Arsenal revisiting interest in signing this £38.7m Real Madrid ace would be a massive statement of intent

Arsenal should revisit their interest in Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior

According to reports from the Metro, Arsenal were amongst the clubs to have been credited with an interest in Real Madrid starlet Vinicius Junior back in the summer transfer window.

However, the Los Blancos were not willing to let the 19-year-old depart the club and a deal to bring him to the Emirates fell through.

As per the report, Arsenal’s newly-appointed Technical Director, Edu, made an enquiry about the availability of Vinicius Junior earlier in the summer but when negotiations with the La Liga giants failed to reach a positive end, the Gunners went ahead with a club-record deal for Nicolas Pepe.

In conjunction with Head of Football Raul Sanhelli, Edu oversaw a massive squad overhaul at the Emirates this summer.

Several mainstays from the Arsene Wenger era like Nacho Monreal, Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey and Henrikh Mkhitaryan departed to make way for the likes of Dani Ceballos, David Luiz, William Saliba and Pepe, who joined the boat for a staggering £72 million

Meanwhile, the Gunners have made a positive start to the season and, although they are yet to hit top gear in the Premier League, Unai Emery is expected to be reasonably happy with how things have panned out for his team thus far.

Having picked up 7 points from their first 4 games, Arsenal headed into the international break 5th in the standings, which is roughly where they deserve to find themselves.

Emery will be expected to go one step better than his first season at the Emirates and challenge for a top-four finish this term, although that will depend on whether they manage to achieve the desired level of consistency over the course of the campaign.

Looking back at the summer transfer window, Arsenal lost quite a lot of players, not only at the back but also in their attacking ranks, with the likes of Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi all heading for the exit door.

In response, the Gunners recruited Pepe and Ceballos to fill in the void but they were never going to be able to plug all the gaps in a single transfer window.

With Mesut Ozil’s future still up in the air and new signing Pepe struggling to get to grips with the quality of the Premier League in the early stages of the campaign, the Gunners might be forced to dip into the transfer window in January once again to bolster their attacking options even further.

Indeed, if the first few games of the season are anything to go by, Arsenal are still heavily reliant on the likes of Lacazette and Aubameyang to get them over the line with moments of magic, something which isn’t likely to work wonders for their top-four hopes.

To that end, the Gunners should consider reigniting their interest in Vinicius Junior, who is widely regarded as one of the top teenage prospects across the globe.

Despite enjoying limited playtime at Real Madrid, the 19-year-old Brazilian prodigy has taken well to his new surroundings in Spain since his £38.7 million move from Flamengo last summer and it is imperative to say that a promising youngster like him fits the bill perfectly at the Emirates.

Essentially a left-winger by trade, Vinicius Junior is capable of playing anywhere across the forward line and he has already earned rave reviews for his blistering pace, mesmerizing dribbling skills, quick feet, instant acceleration, agility, balance, as well as his creativity, vision and ability to engineer moments of sheer brilliance, which make him a top prospect for the future.

Real Madrid, who are very much aware of his talent and potential, have the right to play hardball with any potential suitor who comes knocking on the door for Junior’s services but that should not discourage Arsenal from revisiting their interest in the 19-year-old, given that his arrival would add that bit of X-Factor and much-needed creative edge to the attack.

Junior, with his versatility to play in different attacking positions, would provide Emery with valuable cover in multiple areas of the pitch, whilst also increase competition for places in the ranks.

With that in mind, the Gunners should consider a deal for the teenager in the future transfer windows to come.
