Hull City would hardly rue the departure of Nouha Dicko on loan

According to the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City forward Nouha Dicko has joined Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan deal.

As per the report, the 27-year-old French-born Malian international was not an integral part of manager Grant McCann’s plans moving forward and the Tigers decided that it was in the best interests of all that the striker left for Vitesse Arnhem, who had initially come up with an offer for the player at the weekend.

Dicko started only once in the Championship this term but he led the attack in the League Cup fixture against Preston North End, which ultimately ended in a penalty-shootout defeat for the Tigers.

Interestingly, the move to Holland sees Dicko reunite with his former Hull City manager Leonid Slutsky, the man who was in charge at the KCOM Stadium when the striker made his move to East Yorkshire from Wolves in a £3.5 million deal back in the summer of 2017.

Having caught the eye as a youngster at French club Strasbourg, Dicko earned a move to England with Wigan Athletic way back in 2011 but he never really established himself over there and subsequently had loan spells at Blackpool, Wolves and Rotherham United before moving to Wolves permanently in 2014.

Dicko’s successful spell at Molineux, which saw him rack up 34 goals in 104 appearances in all competitions, earned him a move to Hull City but his career has been in a freefall ever since, with the 27-year-old just managing meagre returns of 7 goals in 54 outings for the Tigers.

To that end, the striker’s departure on loan hardly comes as a surprise to the fans at the KCOm Stadium and it might open up an opportunity for him to resurrect his career under the guidance of his former manager in the Eredivisie.

City, on the other hand, have no reason to rue Dicko’s departure and, while the Tigers haven’t hit the ground running thus far in the Championship this term, McCann would probably want to look at other options to deliver the goods in front of goal.

An unimpressive 1-1 draw away at Millwall last week meant that the Tigers went into the international break with only a solitary win in their first six games in the Championship.

They managed to continue their feat of scoring in every game thus far in the draw at The Den but McCann will be hoping for better results in the coming weeks.

Tom Eaves and Josh Magennis have shared the responsibility of spearheading the attack till now but neither of them has particularly impressed till now and Hull might as well look to dip into the transfer window in January to bring in a better alternative.

As for Dicko, his contract at Hull is set to expire next summer, although Hull City have the option to extend the 27-year-old’s stay by a further twelve months, which they might opt to do if the striker does well on his loan spell at Vitesse.

Realistically, though, he doesn’t seem to have a future at the club and a loan deal looks like a fair settlement for the time being.
