Arsenal Getting Closer To Draxler

Share

Just over two days until the January transfer window ends and as always Arsenal are on the news on the final days with reports about Julian Draxler flying in from almost all sources. It was skysports who reported the news earlier today that an Arsenal delegation is in Germany attempting to negotiate the transfer of Julian Draxler from Schalke.

Further, the latest from Guardian (a respected source when it comes to transfers) suggests that, Arsenal have in fact sent a delegation, Dick Law, their chief transfer negotiator, in Germany to explore the possibility of a January deal for Schalke’s Julian Draxler. Draxler’s contract contains a £37m buy-out clause and Arsenal are not happy to pay that, believing it is too high for a 20-year-old who is not yet the finished article. But there is the feeling at Arsenal that there could be room for manoeuvre with Schalke.

Arsenal although have quite a number of options in midfield, are currently running short of numbers as long term injuries to key players like Walcott and Ramsey have forced them onto the backfoot. And with the suspension of Flamini, Wilshere’s struggle to play continuously means that the addition of Draxler who can play on the left as well as behind the striker would add a different threat to Arsenal’s attacking prowess in the business end of the campaign.

After last night’s disappointing draw at St.Mary’s Arsene Wenger when asked about transfers said,

“I hope we have something to tell you because we lost a few players now,”
