Arsenal By The Numbers Against Olympiakos: Sanchez The Only Positive For The Gunners

Share

Arsenal have left themselves with a mountain to climb as they chase a place in the Champions League knockout stages after a 2-3 home defeat to Olympiakos. Arsene Wenger’s side face the mighty Bayern Munich in two of their remaining four fixtures and would need to win at least three to stand a chance of going through.

Esteban Cambiasso impressed for the visitors on his return to London as a shockingly poor performance from the North Londoners leaves them with slim hopes of progression.

Here are the Player Ratings from a gripping game at the Emirates Stadium.

David Ospina – 4

Schoolboy error to drop the ball over his own line. Future at the club looks bleak for the Colombian.

Hector Bellerin – 6

Willing runner down the right flank in an attacking sense, but defensively naive at times.

Gabriel – 5

Very little to shout about except s determined block to deny Fortounis.

Laurent Koscielny – 6

Helpless with the first two goals. Came off injured.

Kieran Gibbs – 5

Went missing for the Olympiakos winner. Failed to grasp his opportunity after a first start in ages.

Francis Coquelin – 5

Looked a bit rusty after coming back from injury. Often bypassed in the centre of the park.

Santi Cazorla – 6

Industrious performance but lacked the usual spark.

Mesut Özil – 5

Started brightly in the early going, but went missing in the second half.

Oxlade Chamberlain – 6

Should have scored in the 10th minute. Unforgiving miss at this level. A willing worker for the team but failed to produce the quality.

Alexis Sanchez – 8

Played both Ox and Walcott through on goal in the early stages but both missed. His equalizer went in vain but he looked in top form.

Theo Walcott – 7

Great goal for the frontman but was wasteful in the 12th minute as well as in the dying seconds when he should have shown the awareness to find Joel Campbell in the box.
