Benteke, Origi, Ings or Sturridge? The Striker conundrum That Liverpool Have Currently!

When Liverpool started the season, they already had a couple of strikers coming into the team relatively fresh. Divock Origi was signed from Lille after the World Cup but was loaned back to the French club while Daniel Sturridge missed a huge part of last season and was being seen as a new player, after he recovered from his injury.

Danny Ings was added into the team while players like Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini were let go off. A partnership of Sturridge, Ings and Origi wouldn’t really strike fear into any team and the idea was to play Sturridge up top alone and be aided by the rest of the Liverpool attackers.

The signing of Christian Benteke changed all that, the big Belgian has shown consistently that he can score goals and isn’t a mug on the floor either. He cost Liverpool £32.5 million and certainly will not be spending a lot of time on the bench.

The conundrum for Liverpool is fitting in these players into their team, the idea of playing just one striker goes out the window as neither Sturridge or Benteke will be happy by playing a bit part role. If it comes to ability and goal scoring prowess, the partnership of Benteke and Sturridge cannot be debated upon.

While one is a brute in front of goal, the other has the guile to play around a big striker. Surprisingly Benteke is pretty fast as well and has often scored goals without playing like a true centre forward; many at Liverpool would claim that they never really had a good centre forward since Peter Crouch or Andy Carroll, though the latter was shipped off unceremoniously by Rodgers as he stated that Carroll would not fit his system of play.

To be honest, Benteke is an upgrade on Carroll and playing him alongside Sturridge could provide rich dividends for Liverpool as long as the pair remains fit. A player who might want to throw a spanner in that would be Danny Ings. The 22-year-old English striker might not be the biggest name in the squad but he certainly has done exceptionally well since signing for the club.

Every time the youngster has gotten a chance to play for Liverpool, he has shone for them. He already has a couple of goals to his name and his partnership with Sturridge against Aston Villa looked to be blossoming, both the players had great movement and Ings is a player who provides Liverpool with another outlet, he is also one of the most hard working players out there, that is something which all Liverpool fans will like.

Origi would probably be a back up to the trio stated above, he does have the pace and strength but lacks a bit of composure in front of goal. He was even voted in last season’s Ligue 1 most overrated XI but he will be working to ensure that does not occur in the Premier League as well.

With Benteke injured at the moment, the pair of Ings and Sturridge should continue at the top but it will be interesting to see how Rodgers, or whoever does replace the Northern Irishman, chooses as the lead strikers. Liverpool have a wealth of options up top, it is just up to them as to how to use this firepower efficiently.
