A Spanish Veteran Or This Chelsea Star? Which Legend Would Be Perfect For Arsenal?

Share

Two legends of the game but only one can be signed, the dilemma that Arsene Wenger faces is one that most of the top managers would want. Arsenal want to upgrade their goalkeepers with Sczcesny all but sure to leave the club, the Gunners need someone who would give competition to current number one goalkeeper David Ospina but the names linked with a move to the Emirates suggests that the new goalkeeper could actually start for Arsenal and bench Ospina.

The players linked with the move are Real Madrid legend, Iker Casillas and Chelsea legend, Petr Cech. Both players have had illustrious careers for their respective clubs which have included a ton of winners’ medals, however, both players now feel the burn of having younger stalwarts in their team. Cech has been dropped because of the form and ability of a much younger Thibaut Courtois while Casillas had made quite a few errors the season before last and was replaced by Keylor Navas and now seems set to be replaced by David de Gea from Manchester United.

Arsene has to make a tough decision as both players come with a ton of experience but just who should the Arsenal manager sign?

London is home, no need to move away

Petr Cech, a three-time golden glove award winner at Chelsea knows what it takes to play in the Premier League day in and day out. The 33-year-old has been fantastic for Chelsea, even recovering from a serious head injury he picked up at Reading, a number of years ago. The Czech goalkeeper holds a lot of records for Chelsea and the only reason he has been replaced by Courtois was that the younger Belgian was not going to sit on the bench yet again and wanted more action, Cech has done extremely well whenever he has been called into action.

This is by no way meant to say that Iker is not a good goalkeeper or he cannot play for Arsenal. The Real Madrid legend has been a one man club for his entire career, but his performances have taken a slight dip over the past 2 years, in fact, he was dropped from the team when Jose Mourinho was in charge and Diego Lopez was brought in. This season he has had a better time up at Madrid, but it hasn’t been a great season for the club as they missed out on a host of laurels.  However, He did help the team to the Decima that is something Real Madrid fans will always be grateful for.

The fact that Cech has been in England for so long is an advantage for him if he does want to play for Arsenal. He is already living in London and knows the country pretty well, he wouldn’t need to do much of a transition if he is to jump ship and he does seem to be in better form than the Spanish goalkeeper. The decision for Wenger should be straightforward, but nothing is this simple in football, either way, Arsenal fans would be extremely happy with Cech or Casillas in the team. Another big name signing for the club in the transfer window is coming up and this time it is for a position that really needs an upgrade for this season.
