99 Goals In Just 121 Games: Should Manchester United Go For This Super Swede?

Hold onto your hats Manchester United fans, if certain rumours are to be believed, the club are in the running to sign one of the largest characters in football and by large we mean amazingly large. According to Old Trafford legend Peter Schmeichel, Manchester United should be in the running to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the end of next season when his contract with PSG runs out.

The Swede, who is 33 years old still is contracted with the French Champions till the end of the 2016 season but he could be available for a transfer should Louis Van Gaal decide to dip into a war chest which is going to be huge, again at the end of this season.

Zlatan is known not only for his off the field antics as well as his on-field ability, the striker might be 33 years of age but he has been one of the best strikers in the world and even in his old age, bangs in goals for fun. PSG might have bought him on a whim and fancy a few years back but he has repaid their faith with not only a glut of goals but two Ligue 1 titles and will hope to do some better in the Champions League as they defeated Chelsea in a tightly contested round of 16 match.

Although Manchester United do need to work on their squad, having someone of the calibre of Zlatan would be huge for them, technically they would be replacing Radamel Falcao, who actually costs more than Zlatan in terms of wages being paid and Zlatan does provide more not only in front of goal but in entertainment value for the team than Falcao.

For United fans who think that the Swede is past his sell by date, here is a fact, Zlatan has scored 99 goals in just 121 appearances for PSG and could become their top scorer by the end of the season. While he would be 34 at the end of the season, he could remind United fans of another great Swede who had a gala time at Manchester United.

Henrik Larsson, who came to Manchester United on a loan spell no doubt but did have a huge impact in the club. Bringing Zlatan from PSG would take some sizeable cash and there could obviously be a clash of egos in a United team, not between players but between Van Gaal and Ibra but pulling off this deal would be immense for United and could be another step closer to a Premier League title post the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
