It’s a bit surprising to see Wes Hoolahan still without a club following his exit from Norwich City at the end of last season.
Hoolahan, 36, left the Canaries in May after 10 years at the club following his arrival from Blackpool in the summer of 2008. Now that the skilful attacker is a free agent, should West Brom snap him up?
West Brom have made a promising start to the Championship this term after being relegated from the Premier League. They currently lie eighth in the table, having amassed 11 points from 7 games. They are the highest scorers in the division with 16 goals.
The Baggies made some really good signings in the summer, with two loan acquisitions – Harvey Barnes and Dwight Gayle.
Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been a brilliant addition, but the retention of key stars Jake Livermore, Jay Rodriguez, Kieran Gibbs, Matt Phillips and Craig Dawson are crucial too.
However, West Brom lack depth in the midfield and the attack. Any injury to a player in that department could leave Moore in a spot of bother. After all, they must aim for Premier League promotion.
Hence, bringing in Wes Hoolahan to add depth and quality to the squad wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Baggies. Hoolahan has entered the twilight of his career but given his experience at the top level and his instant availability, he seems like an enticing prospect.
Hoolahan spent the major part of his career at Norwich City. During his decade-long stay at Carrow Road, he made 351 appearances, bagging 54 goals and setting up 78. The attacking midfielder featured 34 times in the 2017/18 campaign in all competitions and went on to contribute with 2 goals and 4 assists.
Despite being 36, Hoolahan possesses the quality that could truly make West Brom’s attack more potent.
He is a fantastic passer of the ball, can pick an incisive pass at any moment and keep possession in the trickiest of situations. His creativity and experience could make him a valuable addition to Moore’s plans this term.
A seasoned campaigner at this level, Hoolahan would represent an excellent piece of business. The veteran Irishman’s arrival would bolster West Brom’s attacking ranks as Moore looks to make a push for promotion this term.
