5 Point Plan To Fix Manchester United’s Next Season – Youth Policy And A Young Manager?

Things just go from bad to worse for Manchester United, not only did they lose to FC Midtjylland in their Europa League game but they also lost a key player in David de Gea who picked up an injury before the game even started.

De Gea joined Wayne Rooney, another crucial clog in the United system on the injured list and this does not bode well for Louis van Gaal who is trying to ensure that United somehow make it back to the Champions League next season.

The Red half of United are behind their rivals City in the race for the top four spot but are six points behind them with 12 games to go. Van Gaal though stated that winning the Europa League would be the best chance for them to get into the Champions League, but that seems far from actually happening.

Manchester United are suffering from exactly what many feared when Sir Alex Ferguson left, it would never be easy to replace the legendary Scot but even bringing in someone as reputed as Louis van Gaal has not been able to change the fortunes of the club.

United need to get their feet back and here is a 5-point-plan to get them going in the right direction.

Sack Van Gaal

 

This is a no-brainer really, the Dutch manager hasn’t improved Manchester United since the days of David Moyes and the team feel like they have regressed into a mid-table side. United aren’t used to such performances and the buck stops with the manager.

If Chelsea can sack Jose Mourinho, who led them to titles galore for the second time, Manchester United should sack Van Gaal come the end of the season. The Dutchman did something great by qualifying for the Champions League last season but he has stayed here for far too long.

More emphasis on the youth policy

United were known to bring out gems from their youth system, we aren’t saying that every season they had a Dele Alli or a David Beckham but they did bring in one or two players who did well for the club.

The revamping of the youth policy has started with Nicky Butt joining as the head of the academy and more emphasis needs to be paid for bringing in quality from the academy rather than always buying. They should give more chances to youngsters next season rather than buying players in their 30s.

Play the United way

Attack, attack, attack! That has been heard time and time again from the United faithful this season and for some reason the team just does not do that. Manchester United were known for their brand of attacking football and that has not worked all that well for them because they seem to have forgotten it.

Sacking Louis van Gaal isn’t the end of it; they need to play the way they used to play. Whether that is under a new manager or under an interim one till the end of the season, at least it would ensure that United have a go at teams rather than surrendering meekly.

Get a young manager in

Jose Mourinho might be in line for the job but United should actually look elsewhere for a manager who can give them the passion and commitment that the team has been lacking this season. Mauricio Pochettino might be a great example of someone United can bring in though the Argentine would probably not want to move away from London.

Diego Simeone is another manager who could be moving away from Spain but he doesn’t really bring exciting football to the club. United need to think a lot before they make this decision, maybe sacking David Moyes wasn’t the best thing the club had done.

Revamp the entire squad

While the importance of the youth setup is important, United have way too many mediocre players in their side at the moment. The team isn’t doing well and the need to invest in the squad and investing smartly is important.

Rather than spending ludicrous amounts on people such as Di Maria and wasting his talent, they need to be smart and use their vast scouting system to get the right players. There is a lot of work that needs to be done at Manchester United and none of that is going to be easy for them this season.
