5 Footballers Who Plays Like Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud: Featuring A German Tank

Share

Olivier Giroud infuriates fans and then gets them off their feet with his performances, last season, he was felt the fire of many Arsenal supporters with his wastefulness in front of goal, something that did cost Arsenal the tie against Monaco in the UEFA Champions League and saw them getting dumped out in the knockout round.

Olivier Giroud

Giroud though does have decent stats in his time at Arsenal; Giroud has scored 74 goals in 163 appearances for the Gunners and does find the back of the net more often than not. His finishing skills are there for all to be seen and his heading ability is probably right up there in terms of accuracy and strength but his consistency is the problem.

World football does have quite a few similar players to Olivier Giroud and we list out five players who are pretty similar to the Frenchman.

5. Aritz Aduriz

His name might be a bit of a tongue twister but Aritz Aduriz is one of those players that you do not want to go up against when it comes to a heading battle. The Spanish striker at Athletic Bilbao has over 100 goals for the Basque club and is one of the most lethal strikers in Spain.

Aduriz is known for his great leap and heading ability and doesn’t look like he is stopping anytime soon, even though he is 34-years-old.

4. Stefan Kiessling

The German striker at Bayer Leverkusen would probably have been in the Germany squad for a number of years, had it not been for a few choice words and a bit of a bust-up with Joachim Loew. The forward is known for his heading accuracy and has seen his playing style evolve over the years.

Kiessling is 31 at the moment and could well be one of the Bundesliga’s best ever strikers. He has more than 150 goals in close to 400 appearances for Nurnberg and Leverkusen and could well finish his career with 200 goals in his career.

3. Vedad Ibisevic

Vedad Ibisevic was part of the Hoffenheim team that was taking the Bundesliga by storm a few years ago. The Bosnian was on top of the Bundesliga scoring charts before he picked up a cruciate ligament injury which did curtail his season for the club.

He has resurrected his career now at VFB Stuttgart and is known for his heading ability and finishing in the box. Ibisevic could have been one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga but his injury actually was something that took quite a lot of talent away from the striker.

2. Alexander Meier

Another player who has a great heading ability and who would have guessed that the German was the Bundesliga top scorer in the year 2014-15, Meier might not be a household name in the world of football but his exploits for Eintracht Frankfurt has certainly won him a lot of plaudits in Germany.

The 32-year-old is built like a tank and plays mostly in the attacking midfielder’s role but has often player all alone up front as well. Meier has one great difference compared to Giroud and that is the fact that he is strong enough to hold the ball up really well, something that Giroud could pick up if he watches a few games of Meier.

  1. Diego Milito

The former Inter Milan and Real Zaragoza striker was at one time one of the most feared forwards and his ability to finish was second to none, especially during his time in Italy under Jose Mourinho. Milito scored 75 goals in 171 games for Inter during his five years at the club.

He wasn’t the most physical striker but his finishing made him lethal in the penalty box and that was what set him apart from the other strikers at the clubs he played at. You passed the ball to him in and around the box and he would inevitably find the back of the net.
