Yesterday there were reports that after taking an initial hit, the Blues have submitted a better offer to Napoli for Kalidou Koulibaly. The defender clearly wants a move out of Napoli and we thought it would be easy to get him but Chelsea are ready to make a club record fee for the player.
Chelsea’s club record fee for transfer stands at £50 million for Fernando Torres from Liverpool in 2011. However, that may very well be a thing of history as Chelsea seemed to have offered a fee of £60 million for Kalidou Koulibaly according to Telegraph. There were reports earlier this week that the Blues have submitted a bid of £43 million but the recent reports seem to blow that out of the water.
Chelsea feels that a bid of that (£60m) will compel Napoli to sell the player even though Koulibaly has three years left on his contract. If it goes through the deal will also make the 25-year-old Senegalese the most expensive defender in the history.
