Why Newcastle must make a move for Richmond Boakye in January

After a disappointing spell in China, Richmond Boakye returned to Red Star Belgrade in the summer. He has been prolific this season, scoring five goals in four league games for the Serbian outfit. However, Richmond Boakye clearly believes he won’t be at Red Star Belgrade for much longer.

According to a report from Sports Ghana World, the 25-year-old Ghanaian has indicated that he is open to making a move to the Premier League in January. Richmond Boakye doesn’t seem to be lacking in confidence and his comments might attract a lot of interest from the Premier League clubs.

Newcastle United should look to make a move for Richmond Boakye in January. The Magpies’ mini-resurgence came to an end on Saturday at the hands of West Ham. On the whole, Rafael Benitez’s side failed to create much and deserved to lose at home against West Ham.

One of the glaring problems for Newcastle United this season has been their goalscoring. It has been very tough for the Tyneside club to find goals despite the team having the likes of Salomon Rondon, Yoshinori Muto, Joselu, Kenedy and Ayoze Perez in the forward department.

Richmond Boakye

All of them have underwhelmed, leaving Rafael Benitez in a position of bother ahead of the winter transfer window.

So it’s imperative for Benitez to sign a new forward to bolster his attacking ranks in January. Clearly, the Magpies need a clinical goalscorer in their ranks if they are to avoid relegation and Richmond Boakye fits the bill perfectly.

Boakye enjoyed an incredible run in 2017, scooping the best performer of the year at Red Star Belgrade after scoring incredible 42 goals in 51 appearances in the calendar year. And after a forgettable spell in the Chinese Super League with Jiangsu Suning, the Ghanaian has picked up from where he left off after returning to Red Star Belgrade in the summer.

Standing at a little over 6ft., Boakye is not particularly tall for a centre-forward but he has the ability to dominate the opposition in the air due to his athleticism which allows him to get off the ground quickly and time his jump to perfection.

The Ghana ace’s natural poacher instincts and physical presence in and around the box will add an alternate dimension to Newcastle’s forward line.

The 25-year-old is known for his ability to make intelligent runs behind the defenders and excels with his clinical nature in front of the goal. Boakye isn’t blessed with a superb technique but he makes it up with his work rate, agility and game-reading abilities.

The former Juventus man’s explosive pace and dribbling abilities allow him to weave his way past his defensive counterparts in a blink of an eye.

Boakye ticks all the boxes to be a perfect fit at St. James’ Park and that said, Newcastle should sign him to solve their goalscoring woes.
