Who could have predicted this? Motherwell defeated Celtic at Celtic Park and won for the first time in almost eight years at this stadium. It actually was a game that was dominated by Celtic, at least possession wise and that possession did bear fruit when Nir Bitton scored a deflected goal but Motherwell came storming back in the second half and two goals from Louis Moult, the second one from the penalty spot gave Motherwell an unlikely victory.
The loss for Celtic means that the Hoops are just one point clear of Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership but they do have one game in hand, which would be extremely important for the Bhoys as they chase another title. Celtic might be feeling the pressure to get back to winning ways after losing their first home game this season but here are a few things the club need to do that would help them.
Nadir Ciftci didn’t really cover himself with glory in this game, although the striker did score twice in the last game against St Johnstone, he didn’t really have the service or made much of what little he had to trouble the Motherwell defence.
Celtic do have a lot of options which they can use up top, for some reason Ronny Deila doesn’t want to use the likes of Carlton Cole or even Leigh Griffiths. Cole might not be the same dynamic player he was at West Ham but he should start the next game as he would be chomping at the bits to start a game for his new club.
It seems that Deila cannot decide just who is perfect for the Celtic midfield and attack, he has constantly changed between Ciftci and Griffiths while the midfield seem to have players such as Commons, Johansen and Armstrong rotated while the likes of Allan haven’t been given a chance to perform even though a lot of money was spent on the youngster.
Deila has to get his first XI fixed and that would be the start of getting something built, this might just be one loss but it could have huge ramifications for the club as they looked all set to win another league title but that could be a tough ask now if things go this way. Deila has a huge squad to manage but he needs to understand his team and who should play in most games.
Well this might seem a bit farfetched at the moment but Ronny Deila’s time could well be up at the club. As always stated, Celtic should win the league easily and try to do well in the UEFA Champions League, while the latter is all but a distant memory, there is grave fear that Celtic might not win the league this season as they are challenged by a rejuvenated Aberdeen.
Deila has probably made Celtic worse than when he signed with them, they aren’t a force in Europe but a farce and the faster Deila is removed from the post the better it would be for Celtic in the long run and even now.
