Arsenal vs Chelsea: 3 Things That Hiddink Must Do To Beat The Gunners

A clash between two of the biggest teams in the country but suffering different fortunes, while Arsenal have the chance to go on top of the league table with a win over Chelsea, the Blues can only hope to close down the gap between them and the top half of the Premier League table.

Chelsea haven’t had the greatest season so far and even their mini revival under interim manager Guus Hiddink came to a stutter against Everton thanks to a 3-3 draw. Chelsea though were lucky to get one point from the game as John Terry scored in the last minute when he was offside.

Arsenal though are in great form and are the team favoured to lift the Premier League crown this season and will be looking for revenge when they lost to Chelsea in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Guus Hiddink and Chelsea need a big win and if they can defeat Arsenal, it could provide them the push they need to get into the European places. This could be a rather nasty game on display and here are three things that Guus Hiddink must do to get the better of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.

  1. Start with Diego Costa
Diego Costa

The last time these two sides met, it was Diego Costa who played a vital role for Chelsea’s win. Costa might not have been the one who scored both goals but he got under the skin of the Arsenal defence and that saw the implosion of Gabriel Paulista and saw him getting sent off.

Diego should have seen a red earlier but if the referee doesn’t see it, it is fair game. Arsene Wenger spoke earlier about his defenders being wary of Costa and his antics and that could well be the way that Chelsea get the better of their ex-goalkeeper Petr Cech and his new team.

2. Disrupt Arsenal’s attack

Arsenal know just one way to play football and that is slick attacking play with great speed. Chelsea would have to deal with that movement and speed and need to disrupt Arsenal’s rhythm in the game. The Blues don’t really have to play attractive football; they need to play effective football.

Chelsea can forget about playing great attacking football and should rather look to make life tough for the Gunners. They need to be physical as that is something that Arsenal are not exactly comfortable with though the Gunners did play well for a 0-0 draw away at Stoke recently.

3. Drop Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas’ form has fallen off worse than a rock thrown into the sea; the former Arsenal playmaker has been poor this season and needs to be dropped. Chelsea need to have protection for their back four and that could mean a starting midfield pairing of Matic and Ramires.

Keeping Fabregas out of the team would also give him a lot of food for thought, he might be supremely talented but if he cannot perform for the team week in week out then he shouldn’t start games, plus his obvious ties with Arsenal could play with his head, we all saw his performance against Tottenham when he was all over the place with his passing.
