3 Thing Arsenal Should Do Against Chelsea To Continue Their Unbeaten Run

Share

As Arsenal take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the battle of the undefeated, viewers are set to have a cracker of a match. With Manchester City just managing a draw at home against them, it is Arsenal that everyone is looking at hopefully to stop Chelsea, who looks just unstoppable at the moment. Both teams would love to keep their unbeaten streak going, but for Arsenal the task would be an extremely tough one. Stamford Bridge has been a fortress for Chelsea and to add to Arsenal’s woes injuries have hit them hard with Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta being the new entries to the list and Alexis Sanchez also doubtful after suffering a knock in midweek.

So, here are 3 things Arsenal should do to come away from Stamford Bridge with a full or partial share of the points:

  1. LOCK DIEGO COSTA

Something that is much easier said than done. The Spanish hitman is in some outstanding form in his debut season for Chelsea. Costa has consistently tormented the oppositions with his immense strength and incredible aerial abilities and is cruising way ahead in the Premier League Top Scorers list with 8 goals in 6 matches already.

But against Manchester City, Costa struggled to get past the duo of Vincent Kompany and Elequim Mangala, as the City centre-backs outclassed him with some really good defending and Chelsea were able to go ahead only when City were down to 10 men. Arsene Wenger should therefore make sure his centre-backs Laurent Koscielny and Per Metasacker keeps Costa at bay. The Arsenal cenre-backs have come under a lot of flaks recently for their sloppy play but have managed to carry on without much damage. But against Costa and Chelsea, they simply cannot afford any slip ups whatsoever.

  1. PLAY OZIL IN THE HOLE

Mesut Ozil has come under a lot of scrutiny among the Arsenal fans in the recent past. Deployed on the left of midfield quite often earlier this season, Ozil looked extremely ineffective. But whenever he was given the opportunity to play behind the striker as seen in the last couple of matches, Ozil has proved he is a class act.

With Mikel Arteta injured, Wenger might be tempted to go back to the 4-1-4-1, with Ozil moved back to the left yet again. But that definitely would be a bad idea, especially with his poor defensive work rate likely to give the Arsenal defence a very hard time. Wenger must therefore play him centrally with preferably Santi Cazorla on the left and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right, to get the best out of him. Being the luxury player he is, he should be afforded his favourite spot and then, Wenger can expect a good display from him.

  1. FINISH OFF THE  CHANCES

Arsenal has been among the most attacking and possession keeping sides in the Premier League so far. Yet, they have not been much able to convert their eye-catching style of football and possession into goals as much as they would have wished to. Against Tottenham last weekend, Arsenal clearly dominated the game with Spurs seldom getting the chance to leave their own half. But yet, all that Arsenal could manage was just a goal.

Against a backline as strong as Chelsea’s, Arsenal cannot afford to waste opportunities that come their way. The leader of the Arsenal attack upfront, Danny Welbeck might have scored a hat-trick in the Champions League tie midweek, but his miss against Spurs was appalling and the players have to be careful that they do not make such mistakes against Chelsea, which could eventually cost them dearly.
