3 Reasons Why Manchester United Should Bring Back This Prodigal Son From Italy

Share

When Paul Pogba left Manchester United for Juventus, many called it a blunder on the part of the Red Devils for letting him go. Although Sir Alex Ferguson maintains that he disrespected the club, the simple fact is that he left due to a lack of first-team opportunities. And in the two years since his departure, the Frenchman has developed into one of the best mid fielders in Europe and is once again on the radars of Manchester United.

Pogba

Although it would take a lot of money to lure him away from Juventus, here are three reasons why the Red Devils should do whatever it takes to bring the 21-year-old Frenchman back to Old Trafford.

1. He is exactly what they need

One of the reasons why Louis Van Gaal is after Kevin Strootman even though he is only just coming back from injury, is because of his dynamism. The Dutchman has preferred a 4-3-3 throughout his career and for that he needs a dynamic box-to-box midfielder who can both defend and attack.

In Pogba, he has exactly that. What makes Pogba so special is his ability to both help out in defense and in attack, without comprising on either. Whether it is going forward and scoring goals or staying back in a more defensive role and creating chances for his team mates, Pogba has shown that he has the tactical intelligence to adjust to both roles, sometimes even during the course of a single game. Although he would be more expensive than Strootman, if the club want to secure the long-term future of their central midfield, then bringing back their prodigal son from Italy is the best option to do so.

2. He is still only 21

Pogba has already won two League titles, won the U-20 World Cup with France, where he was given the tournament’s Golden Ball and was named the Best Young Player in last summer’s World Cup. With all those credentials to his name already, many people forget that he is still only 21 and he still has a long way to go before he reaches the peak of his potential.

The fact that he is a regular for both club and country tells you how well, he is thought of by one and all. At 21, Pogba has a legitimate claim to being one of the best central mid fielders in the world at the moment, if not the best. So if the Red Devils want not only the finished article, but also someone who is young to take over in central midfield, then their former player, Pogba would be the perfect candidate to do just that.

3. Has a massive re-sale value

If there is one thing that might stop Manchester United signing Paul Pogba, aside from the fact that he is contracted to Juventus till 2019 is his massive transfer fee. Having already spent huge money last summer, it is highly unlikely that the board will sanction another massive transfer war chest so soon.

But if there is one thing that can convince the club of spending the £40 million or so that is reported in the papers, it is his re-sale value. At only 21, even if he signs a massive six-year contract with the Red Devils, he will still only be 27 at the end of that contract, which would mean that he would be at the peak of his powers. Even if United decided to cash out on him, at the end of his contract, he is young enough to ensure that the club had profit from their investment. Although that isn’t something that the club would want to do, it is something that might just sway them into spending big and bringing Pogba back to Old Trafford.
