3 Realistic Targets Who Can Make This Manchester United Side Title Contenders Again

Louis Van Gaal was left with more injury related news as the pair of Rafael and Luke Shaw were injured in their last game against Yeovil in the FA Cup. While United have been winning, ugly most of the time, it is a matter of concern for the club to see so many players getting injured, as soon as a couple are ready to get back into the team, other players get injured and end up on the treatment table.

With the transfer window now open, this could be the chance for Van Gaal to make a few important signings and ensure that United do well in the remaining games and qualify for the UEFA Champions League, here are 3 players who can make this  Manchester United squad a title contenders again.

Kevin Strootman (during PSV days)

Kevin Strootman

Everyone knows how much Van Gaal rates the Dutchman and with him just recovering from his long term injury, it is probably a gamble to sign him but he is a brilliant midfielder who would completely change the look and playing style of United for the better.

Strootman has been called the Dutch Roy Keane but he is more than just a tough tackler and the 24 year old would be an ideal player for the deep midfielder’s position at United. With vision and passing range, he could be the one major signing from this transfer window for United.

Mats Hummels

The 26 year old has been linked with so many clubs but only a few have come out in their like for the German World Cup Winner. Hummels has had a horrid time while playing for Borussia Dortmund this season and maybe a move away from Germany would help him get his feet back.

Dortmund themselves have been very poor and there is a fear of them getting relegated, this could be the ideal time for United to snap up the Dortmund lynchpin and improve their defence as well. Hummels wouldn’t come cheap but then again players of such calibre will never come for a cheap price.

Phil Jagielka

Another player who hasn’t had the best of seasons and neither has his club, Jagielka has often been seen as the best defender from outside the big clubs and with Everton really struggling this season, he could join Wayne Rooney as a player who jumped from blue to red.

Jagielka is strong in the air and although he is 32 years old, he still can play at the top level. He would also be incredible to the young defenders in the team and provide them with huge experience and knowledge of the game, he would be available for a cut price for sure considering his age and Van Gaal should sign him at least for a couple of years.
