Arsenal made a wonder signing this summer bringing in Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona. The Chilean star’s addition to the team brought in great finesse to Arsenal’s attack force. But Arsenal needed more than a quality attacker. Their defense looked weak irrespective of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers joining. And another position where Arsenal lacked quality was in the defensive midfield. They have the experience of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini in their squad but both the players are well past their prime. They have become slow and are unable to play a pivotal role in front of their back four.
Arsene Wenger hinted before that he will be making new additions in the central defensive midfield position in this winter transfer window. Here are three possible signings which can happen in this transfer window for the Gunners.
Grzegorz Krychowiak
This midfielder from Sevilla is strongly linked with Arsenal. The Polish midfielder has been playing really well this season for the Spanish club. He is strongly built and possesses very good defensive qualities. His passing ability is also commendable. He has a pass success rate of over 80% in the La Liga this season. Krychowiak’s addition will be a great boost for the club as he can take up the pivotal role for the Gunners. The only problem with his transfer this time is his huge transfer fee which may raise a few eyebrows at the London club. Krychowiak’s transfer fee is somewhere around £24 million. Shelling out such a huge amount for a defensive midfielder is something Arsene Wenger will seriously think twice.
Moussa Sissoko
The 25-year-old French midfielder who currently plays for Premier League side Newcastle United may leave his current side in January. He is strongly linked with Arsenal and Paris Saint- Germain. The speculations came up strongly when the Frenchman spoke openly about ‘moving to a bigger club’. He also addressed Arsenal as the ‘club of my heart’. Newcastle United made it clear that they will not sell their talismanic midfielder unless their demand of £20 million is met. But considering Sissoko’s desperation to leave the Magpies and join some other club may force the Premier League side to let Sissoko go for a much lesser amount.
William Carvalho
Arsenal are poised to sign this Portuguese defensive midfielder from Sporting Lisbon. This 22-year-old is strongly linked with the Gunners for a possible £20 million move. Arsene Wenger had opted for this signing last winter itself, but the transfer talks fell apart after Sporting were not willing to sell their talent below 30 million. But now the transfer talks have again revived and the club is willing to sell the Portuguese for a much lesser price. Wenger holds strong admiration for this young midfielder and there is a possibility that he will be successful in roping in William Carvalho this winter. Carvalho’s addition will strengthen the side for sure who has been instrumental in the Sporting Lisbon side for two years now.
